Mary Ruth, Does your round mahogany table have a pedastle which splits to accept the leaves.
How big around is it?

Yes it does, it is 48" in diameter and I have one leaf at 12" wide. I have a second leaf I picked up at an antique shop that fits it, not the same sides but that is OK with me.
This table was made in New York (has stamp) says 189_that last number is not clear but I am sure that stamp meant when company was founded. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mary Ruth,

When did you get it and how much did you pay?
I am absolutely GREEN with envy. A friends of mine had an oak table 60 inches in diameter with a pedastle that split. It had SEVEN leaves. It was the most wonderful table I had ever eaten at. Wide enough to put food in the middle of the table. I've been looking for one ever since. For 20 years I had 13 antique oak chairs to go with it but no table so finally gave 6 chairs to my sister in law.

I just sold a smaller 38" round oak pedestal table we had as our breakfast table in Virginia. Too small for dining so I sold it.
I found this table in Virginia. The lady had sold her home and her antique business and this was one of her pieces she had for years and never got around to striping the top, I got it for a little over $200. At the time I thought it was a lot, till I got home and saw the tag under the top! The pedestal comes apart, has a metal clip that you turn and it comes apart in 1/2. My ex mother in law had a table like this all solid, you couldn't lift it! This is a lighter table, but I still love it. I love serpentine legs rather than claw foot.
60" is a great size, OMG that is not common at all! She really had a great table! Online you can find companies that sell the mechanism to hold the leaves and separate the table, they can get real pricey! You know her table when set up must have been awesome with all the food and dishes, drinks, everything on it!!!
Since there is only my DH and I this table will be big enough, and if we have company to feed more, we have this Duncan Phyfe table that opens up and has a leaf so it gets real long and we could add that to the Den. So, I could seat 12 if all my kids and grand kids showed up! I also have a couple of other small tables we could group together, but I am over doing that much! LOL I am helping my daughter set up so she can have the larger get togethers at her house!
Her table is with leaves can go to 8' long and she has another table she can add to it, so she can manage it.

My mother had a standard 48" wide table that she kept extended with 3 leaves to seat 10. Obviously she had a fairly large dining room. Unfortunately she gave her dining room suite to my niece. MY table is an apartment size oval and with 2 leaves only seats 6 at the most although my dining room could accommodate a larger table. At my age and never entertaining, I saw no need to buy a new one when I bought this house. Really unfortunate because I have more than several lovely banquet size madeira tablecloths.
Now that I have given away 7 of the antique oak chairs that I have, I guess I'll eventually run across a 60" table which will accept seven leaves. Isn't that the way life is???::::smile::::

YES, it seems the moment I give up on something, then the answer comes! I guess it is 'putting the problem to rest' and then it solves itself!
Maybe you can do something else with the tablecloths?
Lifestyle and use is the most important criteria to how we should decorate. In Virginia we needed the space to entertain, here in Florida, no way, I want my good friends and family only in my home. I want a much more relaxed atmosphere!
And when you do run across a 60" table which accepts 7 leaves, you can stand there and admire it, and say 'I found it' even if you do not bring it home! Take a picture! or have someone take a picture of you next to it! lol
I love a round table, but I will keep my mahogany table with one leaf in the center because it will hold the centerpiece flowers or decor so the place settings will be given more room when there is just DH and I most of the time.
I intend to have a settee in the back against the wall, then the table with two comfy chairs then one or two opposite the settee (parson's wicker). DH and I will probably use the settee and wing-back comfy chairs 95% of the time we sit there. We like to sit and talk after our meals. We know how uncomfortable the parson's chairs are (to sit in for a long time) because when company comes (family) they gravitate towards the comfy wing-back chairs and we sit in the other chairs! LOL
