I came across this idea for rug painting. This site shows how to stencil on rugs.

An inexpensive (because no design is on it, use plain gray or beige brown or black) low pile carpet could be stenciled with paint then installed on the center area of your stairs!

I Thought with your background and interest in collages, this might be something you could get into! You can make your own stencils too, for shapes that go with your decor. And choose your colors. You could even mask off a grid pattern to make a needlepoint type of look (like on the black carpet for example)

So many possibilities with this product. You are creative and I am sure you can come up with your own ideas!

Just thought I would pass this along since I 'saw your stairs' in my mind when viewing this site!

Picture is an example of a rug done with this paint specifically made for this type of project.

Thanks a lot for the info Mary Ruth. We shoved all the furniture near the stairs out of the way and in front of the fireplace! And have not done another thing on the stair question! It nags me all the time.

DD and her family will be here in August and DD has a good eye and talent too, also DGD is definitely developing in the decorating sense. We'll have a family pow wow about it.

Now how did I know you were being nagged by those stairs? LOL

I knew you were probably thinking of a solution, and thought this might start the creative juices flowing!

Sending more: (can never have to much!)
