I already tried My Perfect Color

Our bedroom is a lovely color called French Cream by Glidden. They no longer make the color and our local Glidden carriers don't have the pigment numbers to make it. I have a can with a tiny bit left, but it had some white mixed in it to do the trim last summer, and the sticker that had the pigment numbers on it was all painted on. If anyone has used this color and has the numbers, or knows how to find them it would be greatly appreciated.

I googled it and this is the closest I can come up with. See the answer paragraph...
If you mean commentary as in opposites on the color wheel, like blue/orange or yellow/purple dividing it vertically at the end of the room would be very difficult. To treat a room that adjoins another as if they were two separate rooms is almost impossible. What I would suggest is to use a color gradation. For example get a paint chip sample, I'm using Glidden 3R7 and 3R8. Use the French cream from card 7 and the apricot cream from card 8 . Whichever color you choose take the card next to it and use the color opposite the one you want. If the color you want is the third color on the card use the third color on the second card, blending the colors at the dividing line. this will give the rooms a slightly different color while keeping the unity of the spaces. I hope you can see what I mean, it's difficult to explain without being able to look at the samples Smile If you really want two complementary colors, I would suggest using a strip of plastic molding like that used to protect the edges of a wall. You may need to cut this so that it lies flat.
I hope this helps, if you need anything else, just give me a shout Smile

Thanks Christine. I found that too. Smile I was hoping someone will have used the same color in the past and saved their can. I would hate to have to paint the entire room over, just because it needs a bit of touch up.

How long ago did they discontinue it? If it wasn't too long ago, I would bet there's a painter somewhere with the old Glidden fan deck. Ask at the Glidden store for the names of some of the painters that have business accounts with them, and start calling them.

My brother in law is a painting contractor...he's got discontinued fan decks for exactly that reason: to match discontinued colors that the stores can't.

Thanks Maureen. I figured that someone had to have the information. That's a great idea to ask the store for painter's names. It was discontinued two years ago or so.

I would also try to clean off the paint can where the code label is covered with paint. Try some denatured alcohol or paint thinner. What's the worse that could happen? You ruin a label that you can't read anyway?

Another suggestion (which you may have already tried) is to track down all the Glidden retailers in your area via the Glidden website. Home Depot is a big one, but there are also probably small independant paint or hardware stores that may have that info on hand.

Maybe you can also contact Glidden directly through thier website. I would assume they have a customer service department that could help.

I could try and clean it with some thinner. We bought it at a local Aubuchan Hardware store, which closed, but we have looked in every other retailer in the area to no avail. Thanks so much for your advice. Maybe, also, if I just go back to the same stores and talk to another paint person they might be able to find it. Thanks again.

Oh my gosh yes! A1SB you are the best! I think if I go to the store with those numbers they will be able to mix it for me. When you go to the website it isn't there, maybe under a different name. Thanks again!

Oh I should have thought of that site myself! I use it frequently! I just assumed it would not have discontinued colors if the retailers didn't have it. Good thinking A1SB!!!
