Trying to outfit a new bedroom in the basement. Found this gray & yellow comforter, shams and a gray bedskirt. But our walls are beige. Will it work with beige walls or should I repaint a different color; ie., gray? (really don't wanna)
I probably will make roman shades for the window. Any suggestions for color? Should I stick with a solid? Also, plan on making a headboard? Color suggestion? Gray? Black?
Here's a collage pic that might help. This message has been edited. Last edited by: nance425,

I think it looks nice with the beige walls. Is this going to be an extra bedroom?

I would paint the walls a pretty grey shade.

Yes, this is a guest room (mostly family) in the basement we are finishing...

If it were me, I'd either look for another comforter that works more harmoniously with the existing wall color OR use the gray as pulled from the comforter for the walls (same family, different hue value if needed) if the rooms have abundant natural light OR yellow (as pulled from the comforter...hue value can vary) if the rooms are limited in natural light. That's just me tho. The good news is that the walls are a neutral now, but I feel your gray/yellow bedding is not providing enough contrast against the beige walls. In other words, things appear washed out...at least as depicted on my monitor.

Froo - the room has lots of natural light. It appears darker because of the flash.
Here's a better pic of the comforter against the beige walls. Would you go with the darker color grey or lighter?

I like gray and beige together but I hate beige and yellow as a combo. Just MHO.

I agree with the comment re. the unlikely marriage of beige and yellow. RE. the shade of gray, view chips that closely match the gray of the comforter in the room's lighting conditions. Opt for the one that provides noticeable contrast and remains in the same family of gray as that in the bedding print.

Practical person that I am, I would find another comforter in a better colour rather than go to the trouble of painting. Even the lightest grey can be gloomy in a basement too. Don't get me wrong, I adore grey in a well lit room.

Nance,
I'm not a fan of the color-mix and would look for a different bedding set.
Good luck with your re-do!

I agree with most others.... Like the paint color but not the bedding.

Since the question you asked concerns changing the paint color, not changing the bedding, I'll try to concentrate on that! I'd try to find a nice yellow color for the walls. But I can't offer a suggestion because I'm still trying to find the right yellow for my own bedroom!!!!!

If you truly love the bedding, I'd have to say, repaint the walls. I agree that yellow and beige definitely do not like each other. There are so many grays out there now that I'm sure you can find one, that is if you choose to repaint.

The question is, do you love the bedding more than you hate the idea of repainting?

I would go with a soft soft grey wall. SW has nice grey colors. I just painted a bedroom in one of their colors.

ok, ok, I took the comforter back. I told DH the consensus here seemed to be to find another comforter that works better with the wall color rather than paint. He said y'all were very smart people! He wasn't a fan of the comforter. But it's been very hard to find something that's reasonably priced for a bedroom that will not get used very much. If anyone comes across something, I would love to take a look. Trying to keep it around $50-75, if possible. ???
Thanks again for all of your suggestions!

When all else fails, there is always WHITE.

Love, Lu - thought about that. But it's so boring and gives me no "inspiration."
nance, with your tan walls and white trim, white bedding will offer a fresh, crisp look to the bedroom, perfect year 'round. An all-white bed can be dressed up or down with throws and pillows in accent colors and patterns, according to the season or just because. You even use subtly patterned sheets with the white bedding. Check these out from Ballard Designs: http://www.ballarddesigns.com/...ibvalue=&listIndex=3
Here's an image I found that might give you some ideas or inspiration.
Wow, you guys...you're great! I love so many of them. Aychihuahua, I love that quilt. Froo, I didn't even think about checking at Target. I really like that blue and brown one (2nd one). That first one is REALLY bold. This message has been edited. Last edited by: nance425,

Nance,
Do you have a stein*mart close to you? Our local store had queen/king quilts for 29.99 today. Of course it's hit&miss.
Also check other discount stores. Good Luck!
