Hi all, new to this site and wondered if I could get some help.

Interested in redesigning our master bedroom but still retaining some of the furnitures. In doing so I'm confused on what the colour schemes should be.

Bed is black frame, wardrobes are beech wood and carpet is cream. I'm looking at getting new chest of drawers and bed side tables, all in beech wood to match the wardrobes - is that a good idea?

What colours should I paint the bedroom?

Welcome! Posting pics helps with suggestions. Based on your description however, you have the classic "blank canvas" to work with which allows you vast scheme options. Keep these things in mind:

contrast
the feel you seek
lighting

What you need is an inspirational print featuring some of the existing neutrals, plus an accent or more in which to draw a wall color from. Once found after being matched in the bedroom's lighting, you can opt for any hue value that works best. It sounds simplisitic for a reason..it is. The print can come via a new comforter, window treatment, a pillow, an area rug or even art. Black and creams along w/ the beech wood can make a dramatic monochromatic scheme as long as prints and textures are featured. Consider black painted furniture pieces to use in this space. Keep the bed the main focal point, but echo some black elsewhere around the room (ex. lamps, picture frames, the top of the night stands or the fabrics you find).

Also, know that bedrooms are private spaces and neither the public space scheme nor feel MUST be continued into this space. The print you find will not only set the scheme and pull everything together, but will help evoke the feel you seek for this space.

Here's the only pic ive got.. Ignore the beech bed, as it is now black....

You could do sage green, medium/light grey, seafoam green, purple/aubergine, there are so many colors that would complement this scheme. What do you like most?

As I stated previously, you have a blank canvas to work with which is a huge plus. Everything is neutral right now. Take color cues from colors you're drawn to such as your wardrobe and new linens. Prints can liven a space even if it's monochromatic. Use more touches of black around the room also. Feature some darker colors to create contrast and more drama. Factor in the feel you seek for this space. The print will give you cues to color and feel. BTW, if the art remains, the colors can be apparent in them aside from the red you have going now. For a new inspiration piece shop for a comforter in a print and colors you're drawn to and use it as a springboard for your entire space. A geometric or abstract print will work harmoniously w/ your wood tones and built ins.

My thoughts were something like this! In terms of the grey and white, with black lamps to match the black bed...thoughts?

Looks great, Francisco: go for it.

I like this set up too, BUT add some texture to the walls somehow, glossy paint, glossy stripes or a wall stencil (very large shapes).

Hi and welcome! I like the second pic you posted...would give the room a definite change. VERY nice.

Nice new/proposed color scheme. The room feels small to me in the photo. For that reason, I would try to use as many space expanding techniques as possible.

Any chance you could make the lighting hanging swag lamps on either side or use swing arm lamps by the bed? Don't know how much you need the storage but how about changing out the bedside cabinets for small, attached wall shelves on either side of the bed?

Can the chest of drawers be either moved to the other wall (out of frame, opposite the bed) or eliminated/moved to another room? It appears that you can't circulate around the end of the bed b/c of the chest so that also makes the room feel very small.

WRT your colors, I would go monochromatic whenever possible. That way, the eye doesn't stop when moving around the room. In addition, the monochromatic scheme should feel very calming and restful.

So, you might consider grey/silver tones for the lamps, shelves or cabinets and going with a lighter grey paint on the ceiling, for example. BTW, keeping the base neutral and monochromatic doesn't mean you can't use colorful accents, prints or do a focal wall.

I would also change out the small item(s) over the bed for something larger, wider - a mirror, possibly. (Smaller paintings or wall hangings can contribute to making a space feel even smaller.) Or, you could go with 3 similar small items in a row to widen the space.

One minor suggestion - if possible, I'd remove all items from the top of the wardrobe. It's one more thing that stops the eye.

I like your vision of the gray/black/red/white scheme. I do think the art above the bed is too small in scale and too high above the headboard tho. I would also like to see some pattern in this space in keeping with your projected scheme.

Thank you all for all your feedbacks; space saving is something I'll consider.

Just a question, pattern/wall stencil what do you have in mind, can you give me some ideas (pics would be great)

Here's a vote against messing around. Go with your first choice. That picture is just perfect. The grey is just what was needed.

Love it! I would have chosen to "grey it all" as well. I'm not a fan of accent walls. I think it will look great with your furniture. Have you chosen a bedding yet?

That looks great. That is a nice color grey. Who makes it?

I do like the grey look. I think that's a good choice, especially if your bed frame is black.

However, I'd recommend getting rid of either your wardrobe or dresser. Having them on either side of your bed, makes the room look even more narrow.

It's more practical to remove the dresser, keep the wardrobe, and maybe get yourself bedside tables. Just like your suggested picture.

The colour you chose is perfect for a serene and contemporary bedroom. Will you please show us pictures when the furniture is all put in place?

I wanted to make a comment about choosing color schemes. So many times we try to "think up" a color scheme. "Would you do this color with these colors?", as in "I am doing a room in green, but should I put yellow or peach with it? It is a very difficult approach to work with color in abstract terms using your imagination to picture it.

I have found that it works better, and is infinitely easier to go to the local sources in your area, and see what is available to work with. Choose color with your eyes and your hands. Pick up an item, and set it next to another item. Do you like them together? I include hands here because the item should be physically in front of you, not in a catalog or online.
