Wow! I especially love the bathroom with the round mirror. That really got my attention! I think this house is especially suited to it's region and site. The palm trees and the sun coming through all of the windows is fantastic. You are right Mary Ruth, this is white done in a super appealing way. This message has been edited. You would almost have to do white in a house with that much sun exposure because any colors would fade like crazy.

I came back to look at the pictures again, because something was nagging at me. You know how it is when you think things over and analyze, and then start to realize something. I think one thing is missing from the house, that I would add, as I think it would improve the interior. All of those big open windows connect the inside of the house to the outside landscape, and they "bring the outdoors in". Only you don't see that really happening in the furniture finish choices. I think the house needs a few pieces of heavily textured, or natural wooden pieces. Or maybe stone. A little bit of the look of the mountain or the trunks of the palm trees. I think that is why my absolute favorite two photos are the one of the bathroom with the round gold mirror, and the next photo of the out door area with the water feature. They reference each other. You would totally expect to see that bathroom when you step inside from the outdoor area. Both areas have texture, stone, metal and simplicity. The wallpaper in the bath is visual texture and reminds me of the palm tree trunks. You have the brown of the little vase relating to the brown of the palm trees. You have different metals between the spaces, but they are not glitzy or glossy metals. In general, If I were doing the house I think I would omit the mirrored pieces of furniture and replace them with things that are more natural looking, or clean lined wooden things with an old patina. And maybe I wouldn't use the dark Asian screen. I do love the midcentury vibe. This message has been edited. Last edited by: cocok,

I am like you cocok, I would love more of the nature brought indoors in way of texture and old patina to ground the house. Missing that nature anchor. Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/

I LOVE the exterior of the house. Beautiful!

charcoalsmom, I know isn't it? The greenery worked in is wonderfully done too. Makes me want to look at it for a while... If I was walking up to that house, I would have to stop and look around for a bit, even if it was my house, I would stop to admire! I think they might find that if their guests are a little late in arriving, just go check outside in the front of the house and there the guests would be talking about the view! This is my dream home. Everything is perfect: the architecture and the furnishings. Wouldn't change a thing about this elegant and polished home. I don't think it needs "natural" materials as the home is clearly anchored in nature by virtue of its setting and sight lines.

The house is midcentury modern, as is some of the decor. They either need to bring more of that decor in, or change it completely. It is jarringly wrong. ********************************************* We need to internalize this idea of excellence. Not many folks spend a lot of time trying to be excellent. Barack Obama

I am so glad we do not live in communes... I mean the hippies in the 60's thought that might be the way to go in the future. I am so grateful we can all pick and choose where and how we live! As more and more materials become available, the more we can customize the look that suits us. aychihuahua, yes there is a lot of nature brought in with the views. dovie, appreciate your comment, what suggestions would you have for this house to make it more comfortable for you? I would bring in some more mid century modern pieces. The white is sometimes used as a unifying color, but then there is the jarring turquoise in the dressing room. It isn't soothing in the whites (I always think of beachy and billowing cotton lawn drapes when I think white) it isn't the beige of the desert, and it isn't the colors of the 50ies... hence the schizophrenic feel IMO. ********************************************* We need to internalize this idea of excellence. This home has some really choice --and glamorous --mid-century furnishings: a gondola sofa, Carlo di Carli armchairs and an original Warren Platner bronze-plated settee and lounge chair, among others. The homeowner/designer has a discerning eye and knows how to mix urbane vintage with contemporary, with splashes of bold color to bring this 50/60s home into the 21st century. A tour de force, IMO.

dovie, I can see where more MCM pieces would reinforce the 50's house. And yes, when a color is popular it seems some decorators 'throw' it in a room, only to be repainted with next year's color. Makes them think they are 'right up' to the day on what is the latest. Funny but it actually looks like that is what is going on. No secrets there! aychihuahua, I tend to agree, there was a lot of work and thought that went into this house, and it really made it come right into today, looks like the house and all the belongings were done yesterday-Fresh! Hi Mary Ruth! I do like this house. Especially the bedroom with the touches of orange! "Fashion passes, style remains." -Coco Chanel

HI Chris, so happy to see you here! There are some lessons taught in this house, every time I look, I see something in a different way. Love the Coco line... I have done some research on her and she was fascinating as well as her ever-lasting designs and style.
