I think I remember seeing this posted before on here. It didn't pertain to me at the time so I didn't make a mental note of the responses. What do you do with the pillows on your couch or chairs when someone sits? I know a good way to add color/texture in a room are with pillows. It just seems that we would be moving them to sit more than they are in place...seems pointless to have them for us??? TIA

I generally leave them unless I need the extra seating in which case I pile them in a basket I use for throws. I'm sure there are better options!

Well, I for one am short, so I like to have a pillow behind my back. We've always had 2-3 pillows on our sofa and over the years I've had only 2 people take them off. In other people's homes they always seem to be in use as well. I find the smaller pillows--14"-16" don't get in the way much.

If you live in my house, you chuck them on the floor Wanda

I gotta just LOVE that response. Most people probably do, hehe LOL

If your throw pillows are making your upholstery uncomfortable then you don't need them. They are meant to add comfort, not take it away. Try using a throw instead if you want to add color and/or texture.

They have not been an issue in our case. They not only add color/pattern/textural interest to our spaces, but can serve as a comfort factor for those sitting or reclining. It must be noted that we keep them to a minimum. If they get in the way there are options to store them from oversized baskets to bins, storage ottomans or benches or stacking them on an unused hearth.

OH how FUNNY for a response! I don't have too many, but have a storage ottoman in case we need to 'rid' the sofa of pillows.

Pillows...sore subject at my house. The back of my sectional is made up of pillows. 16 to be exact and 2 bolsters and 2 silly useless balls. Unfortunately, they are all needed to sit comfortably as the sofa is really deep. (need the eye roll emogee)

We use the sturdy pillows as little lap tables to hold our ipads or iphones or just cuddle with.

That's where ours end up too. Cathy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Grandchildren are God's gift to you for not killing your own! We don't stop playing because we grow old...we grow old because we stop playing

We've got two deep seated leather sofas and there are a ton of pillows that came with it and they're really uncomfortable. Hence DH throwing them on the floor. I really need to do something about that. And I'll NEVER buy another sofa that has pillows you have to "plump." Wanda

The Husband doesn't sit on any seat--sofa or chair--if there are pillows. To Him, that means keep off. So, I have only two pillows, and keep them on the same end of the couch--two rectangle pillows that soften the arm rest when I lay on the couch. I have a bunch of embroidered and cross-sttched pillows that would normally be "toss" pillows. But, I keep them in a basket--and then if someone sits and wants a pillow for support, they can get one from the basket--rather than keep them on the furniture and toss into the basket if they are in the way. What I find funny is that when I remove the pillow from behind me, and ask where I can put it, folks get bent out of shape and tell me its for back support. So, I put it back there. And, then they get bent out of shape and ask me why I'm sitting forward in the chair. I explain I AM sitting all the way back, but that their cushion is made to keep a SHORT person--like themselves--comfortable in the chair. For a person with LONG legs, it's just pushing me forward and with my long legs, it's very noticeable. Is there someplace I can put it? (again) :::eyes roll:::

Excellent! I do hope the 'trend' of more cushions will soon be seen for the farce it is, both on beds and upholstered furniture. I seldom use half the cushions I have and keep them poly-bagged in the closet to be rotated at my whim. Otherwise they all sat around getting dusty and just needed too much upkeep. Behind our backs. They can also be moved over to the left or right. If someone short comes over maybe the pillows would be of help to them? What about your young sons? They might need them when they are older if they don't right now. Don't buy pillows that are all the same size. Buy a couple that are smaller than the other two. That helps visually as well as being more practical.

at my dd's house her furniture is so low, i sit on hers but wouldn't do that at just anyone's house...lol...and it depends on the pillow, too...like the petal one in an ad for paint..have seen them in the store, so those would be put aside...
