Which bed size seems to be more popular queen or king? For a while it seemed no one had king size in their homes anymore.

That is such a personal question, meaning it is all about customizing your own home to fit your needs.

Some may choose a Queen sized bed because of the size of the room (where a King sized bed just won't fit). And other choose a Full sized bed for same sized room.

A king sized bed has great space (a twin sized space for each person) for those who want the room to roll over and stretch, or to have the space.

Personally we made our choice based on our lives and how much personal space we need to feel comfortable.

Making a King sized bed takes more energy and time and bedding costs more, but in the long run it is about fitting the needs of the person or persons going to sleep in it not the 'look' or popularity of the sizes of beds.

Indeed, it's a matter of the circumstances Mary Ruth posed....body type, style of sleeping, room size, cost, etc. I have a newish queen bed and for some reasons, I feel I perhaps should have gone larger as our room could have taken a larger bed. DH uses a body pillow (had hip replacement) so that's like another person in bed which is another reason to go king. I do appreciate the ease of flipping my mattress and the lower cost of bedding w/ my queen tho. Weigh your needs and any restrictions and decide which size works best for you.

Just an informal observation and unscientific answer: the size sheets that sell out the quickest, in stores or on QVC(!), are the Queen size.

Bottom line: Buy what you want.

We love our Queen bed and will never get a King, if my DH can help it.

We have a Cal. King, there is NO WAY I would share a bed with anyone that is smaller than a King or Cal. King.

We have a King because that is what my husband likes. He is 6'5" and when he curls up his legs it takes up some space! I like a King OK, but I kind of prefer a Queen in general. A Queen is much easier to fit into most bedrooms, and I think they have plenty of space for sleeping.

I would only choose a king size bed if the room were really large, but that's just my preference. We are comfortable sleeping in a queen size, which allows more room for other furnishings and is easier for me to make up each day.

As for which is most popular, I have no idea. I would not be make such a personal decision based upon popularity. I would make the decision based upon personal needs, personal preference, and budget.

As for me, I have never had anything but a king size bed for our master bedroom in our primary home and lake house. DH is a tall man, and we both prefer king size beds. They are much more comfortable for us. When we travel, we request hotel rooms with a king size bed as well.

We have a king sized bed because I like my space. I draw a line down the center and DARE him to cross over.

Besides, if we didn't have a king bed where would the dog sleep?

It's a king bed here for 28 years. It was our first purchase as a married couple. If we had a queen bed someone would have to sleep elsewhere. LOL.

BTW: Some of the beds are No-flip now as they have the pillow tops.

I really think it just depends on many factors.

Cost, personal comfort and space needs, room size, etc.

When we were both single, The Husband and I each had our OWN full size bed. We had just gotten engaged, and I refused to set any type of wedding date until I had a King size mattress in my apartment.

It was OK to just put on the floor. I wasn't expecting anything big and fancy. It was fine to build a platform for it later, buy a bedframe later, etc.

(I read somewhere that a King is the equivalent of two people each sleeping in a twin size bed, and that a Queen is equivalent to each being in a crib width.)

The next day he bought a King size mattress and brought it to my apartment.

And, we have such different sleep patterns and habits and preferences that it's ALL MINE! He has back issues and prefers the floor these days. OK!!!

Queen or king beds are such a personal choice so all I can say is my experience with them. We had always had a queen size bed and liked it, however got a king when the new dog started sleeping with us and took up half the bed. I found the king size bedding was much more work and the duvet was a real pain to put the cover on and flip around. Also the sheets were more work to wash and fold as there is just more fabric to deal with. After a few years we went back to a queen and no longer let any dogs on the bed.

However we never minded being close but for people with sleep or health problems a king or even separate beds might be the answer.

Should also say that the size of the bedroom might come into this decision. In a huge bedroom a queen size bed might be too small and in a smaller one a king might be too large.

although we have 4 decent sized bedrooms, they are all ...oddly... laid out and a king wouldn't fit in any of them.

a couple years ago I tried all day to arrange our queen sized bed in ANY otehr configuration in our room and it wouldnt fit except where it was. we have a room with 8 walls, but it isnt an octagon!!

I would LOVE a king bed, but I guess it just isnt ever happeneing.

DH and I are taller, long limb-ed folks and really need the room of a King in order to spread out; otherwise we clang into each other...ha!

Guest room has a queen tho as it isn't that big of a room.
