We have a moss rock fireplace that goes to the ceiling with 2 dark brown, built-in mantles that blend with the dark rock. Should the mantles be a lighter color so they are more noticable?

Do you want them to stand out? Could you post a picture to help us see your particular room?

What is moss rock? | ||||
|
It is rock with actual moss growing on the rock. It will continue to live on the rock even inside. Very Colorado!

I'd prefer the mantels are in a degree of contrast to the rock (lighter or darker). Take color cues from the trim in the room, the flooring if wood and your wood furnishings in re. to the mantel color. Focusing lighting toward the fireplace also helps.
