Hello Everyone! I posted these photos a while back after I finished, for the most part, the master bedroom. Now, I want to tweek it so it doesn't look so formal. I thought about changing the lamp shades to a cylinder shape, maybe adding some fabric with green in it to the shade, I want to have a lighter, more relaxed feel. The artwork above the bed has green in it as well as the violet and goldish yellow. I am getting a pintuck duvet cover in white and probably go with all white sheets. What can I do to give this room an updated, casual feel? I love the idea of adding some green, the color on the walls is SW Obi Lilac. I am walking in and out of the room, looking at window treatments, pillows, lamp shades...I'm bouncing off walls here, hahaha. Looked at a few of the women's Pintrest pages here, amazing but, that just confuses me more Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I painted the tiny bathroom in the master red but, will change it if I need to. Thank you all so much in advance!! Lisa JAG alska du pappa ![]()

Hi SwedeOne, I live in Melbourne just about one hour and a half ride north of you. LOVING the changes!!! If you are keeping the red, I would add a bit of binding or a cord around the bed cover to make a red line between it and the bed skirt. And add a little red on the bureau. Welcome to the boards here Florida neighbor! This message has been edited. Hi Mary Ruth, Thank you neighbor! You are one of the people I was referring to on Pintrest, I am now "following" you...how many times have you been able to say that in the past without a restraining order? haha I don't know about the red, I have red accents throughout the house which is why I took it into the bedroom. Now it feel so stuffy, not light and airy. I was thinking of how I could add some green, love green and lilac together. Trying to figure out some patterns for pillows instead of the solid-colored silk ones. It's fun doing this, once you figure out what you want to do Thank you for your input and love your Pintrest page! Lisa JAG alska du pappa

Hey Lisa, Some of my friends say 'I have been stalking you on FB and Pinterest! lol Yap we are getting more and more comfortable with showing and airing our 'laundry'! I think your room is not stuffy, what I think is happening is that you have fallen in love with 'layering'! That is a graduation from the basics, so breathe deeply it is good news! You can add your 'green' shade you love on each side of the windows using the white as the sheers in the middle. You can also add some green pillows on the bed as you stated. Take away the three dark pillows in front and replace with the lighter green ones, do not go dark on the green, go like sage or softer gray green. Colors do not have to be an exact match. And you can add a rectangle shaped green painted area with molding around edges behind your print, that will act as a matting. Then you can replace the area carpet with one that has green in it or is a shade of green you like. Light and airy is a term you could use if you used all pastels, or all white. But in your case your room does have some 'heaviness' to it with the darker color red. BUT that is an attractive room, you worked hard on the way you put it together and you would not have gone that direction unless you wanted to live with those colors. So, now you need the courage to live with it a while and at least let it sink in as to why you wanted it. I think the room feels secure. If you moved from the North to come to Florida as I did (Nova Scotia, Massachusetts and Virginia) I need a bit of the 'North' roots with me in my home. So, if you examine in your past I am sure you had those colors or they remind you of a home with deep roots. Once your need not to have that red color. I like the lavender, you could lighten it up with a lighter lilac to brighten the room, or open the blinds more. I do not think you have that much red in there to bog it down. Perhaps it is the intensity of the lilac? I think you did a great job with putting together that bedroom, so I think it looks good. Try bringing in some greens and see if you like it. I really like the lamps too! That picture over the bed is nice, I like the colors in the flowers too. You are so right, This is FUN! Although I love your wall color the entire room does not read "light" to me, but rather "dark" The art work, the window shades, the red pillows the dark pillows and the dust ruffle all are dark which is fine if that is the look you are after. The lamp however does look "light" as it is glass and the shape of the shade is also fine. I think you need more white, more glass, mirrors and maybe lighter window shades. It would be nice to see more pics of the whole room so people could join in on the room advice. Decorating is fun while at the same time problematical (never enough, time, money or energy!) Oh, also it would be nice to see something between the wall and the ceiling. Crown molding, or something like that.

I love your room. I remember when you posted the pics before. I would have never thought to use red in a room that color, but the artwork makes just a perfect way to tie it in. I don't think it is stuffy at all. I wouldn't make any major changes. Crown molding would be pretty, or an accessory here or there -just a tweek, but I really think it's perfect as it is. Your new bedding should complete it.

Hola Mary Ruth You're right, I am thinking about "layering" now, look out, haha! I think your ideas are great, I have to lighten things up, the shades on the windows are "merlot" with the white sheers. If I changed those, what color do you think I could lean toward? I don't know if green would look right not there and white won't block enough of the light, I need something so the room doesn't get really bright in the morning. I am going to order the pintuck duvet in white, what's your opinion on the sheet color and the bed skirt? The bedskirt now is a pewter color silk, it matches the brushed nickle in the lights and the buttons on the headboard. I really appreciate your input, it feels so great to get something done and to make the changes to it so that you don't just "like" it, you love it! Not lovin the weather we're having in the "sunshine" state though, haha. Hope you stayed high and dry Lisa JAG alska du pappa

Hi Lady of Shallot, I agree, it isn't "light" and originally, I had an all white house in Ohio, moved to Florida and went for richer colors. Now I want to give it a lighter feel, to me it feels formal, not fun at all. There isn't much light that comes in the room, I have trees in the back and tinted hurricane windows along with dark merlot colored shades. I wanted to have plants in the room and none did well from the lack of light. I will take more pictures of the other walls in the room, I never did much more with it due to the three things you four very accurate things you mentioned, haha. I did put that into the kitchen that isn't finished, yet Oh, crown molding is something I want to add to the room, I will look into that! What do you think would look good on the windows? I'll get the photos up tomorrow, thank you for your suggestions!! Lisa JAG alska du pappa

Hi Becky, Thank you!! I would love the crown molding, I am going to look into that, it would be such a difference! I won't do anything major, like repaint the room, I do not like to paint, haha. That's why I am thinking of small tweeks, pillows, window treatments, etc., lamp shades, etc. I appreciate your kind words and input very much! Lisa JAG alska du pappa

Swede, your bedroom looks really nice. Since it sounds like you would like to add some green, how about a larger lamp with a green lampshade and a green throw pillow. You could change the rug at the bottom of your bed to a red or green too. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg**** ![]()

Hi Victoriangirl, Thank you for adding some green to the photo, that gives an idea as to how it will look, I appreciate that. I am going to get different lamp shades, either green or make ones with material over them that that have green as their base color. The dark, solid color pillows will be changed to ones with some green in them as well. I'm not sure what to do about the sheets and bedskirt, if it would look best all white or not and the window treatments, whether I will change the shades to a different color. I thought green would look good with the wall color, I also know that a golden yellow looks good as well. Yellow, green, I would appreciate others opinions on what color(s) would look best Thank you again! Lisa JAG alska du pappa

Well, I have no suggestions because I think it looks fabulous the way you have it right now! That's an amazing difference between the before and after pics. ~Jean~ in garden zone 6b

For the windows, I'd opt for divided tilt-rod plantation shutters, in white, so you can keep the lower half of the window closed for privacy, when you need it, and the upper half open. This will coordinate nicely with your louvered closet doors. Alternately: white wood blinds, flanked by floor length sheer cotton/voile/linen curtains, in a tailored style hung from a simple rod with rings. Curtains should be drawn back to frame the windows. For the bed, since you have a beautiful white tufted headboard, a mix and match selection of white, pale lilac and pale green patterned and solid sheets and covers would give it chic, casual look. No matchy-matchy. Vary the textures. Matelasse, tone-on-tone crewel embroidery and/or woven dobby stripes can add visual interest and informality. As for lamps, oversize them and use white drum shades for a contemporary feel, for example, a gourd lamp. Nothing skimpy, please. You need the scale to balance the voluptuous proportions of the headboard. Love the shag rug.

Hi Jean, I like it too but now want a bit lighter feel It was a blast when I first got here, I had boxes for nightstands, haha. Thank you so much! Lisa JAG alska du pappa

Hi Aychihuahua, Wow, thank you for the suggestions!! I love white wood blinds for the windows, I can't do the shutters but will do the wood blinds and already have the voile curtains hanging by rings now. For the bed, I just ordered a white, tufted duvet cover. What kind or color sheets, pillows and bedskirt do you think would go well? The bedskirt I have now is a pewter colored silk. I am not into flowery duvets, that's why I got the tufted one. I don't want "matchy matchy" like you said. The lamps, I was going to get drum shades, I'll see if that works because I love the lamps, they are brushed nickle and crystal, not glass. I truly appreciate your wonderful suggestions! Now, it's mostly the bed linens that I need to figure out. Thank you!! Lisa JAG alska du pappa

Hi, Swede. One of my favorite sources for sheets is jcpenney. Here is something I think would look awesome on your bed: pale lilac sheets with a luscious and lavish lace trim. s-24 ![]()

I agree with LOS... More white, mirrors. I would get rid of the red, except for the art work. That can pop, bot too much red and purple reads dark and sort of cocktail lounge. Love the artwork, though. I've never really seen anything like it. It almost reads Asian? It also looks a bit like crewel work. I would add some more casual, graphic patterns in fabrics? Maybe replace the dark window shade with bamboo, or white. Maybe crisp cotton panels instead of sheers? I love how bold you went with wall color. We're staying in a cottage in Maine right now with a similar color bathroom. It has lots of white and it's pretty cool.

Hello Everyone! I am going to lighten things up by getting white wood blinds, white cotton curtains and a white bedskirt. I bought a pintuck duvet and now, see this duvet that I like as well. Maybe it's because I am a Libra or just the fact that I could rarely make up my mind when I saw two of something I like, haha. So, I'm asking for opinions on which duvet you think would look better? I like both but, don't need both. This is the pintuck duvet Thank you in advance! Lisa JAG alska du pappa ![]()

And the eyelet duvet JAG alska du pappa ![]()

I vote for the eyelet duvet. Where on earth did you find that beauty?

Dear me: I love what you did with that room. It looks super. (I am prejudiced of course because that is close to the color of my room --aubergine -- with grey walls except for headboard wall in aubergine). As for picking up green, maybe a smidge here and there but make it minty against the bolder purple. Love the eyelet and your idea about the white blinds is perfect! You don't need any advice -- you need to GIVE it!!This message has been edited. Last edited by: arepo,

I vote for the eyelet coverlet too! Mary Ruth ![]() *****We don't see things as they are, we see things as WE are! ***** (Anaias Nin)***** http://pinterest.com/mary_ruth/

Hi Aychihuahua! Sorry for the delay, been a crazy week! This is from West Elm, I don't know if they sell it anymore but I found it on Ebay. Now the question, what kind of bedskirt will look good with this? I bought a white, hemstitch, split corner one, it is plain, no texture. I am going to get pale lavender sheets, I don't want a super frilly look but I don't want it to masculine either. The bottom of this duvet isn't scalloped or anything, maybe I should get something with pleats or something? I would appreciate any suggestions! Lisa JAG alska du pappa

Hi Arepo! Wow, thank you!! Your room sounds gorgeous! I'm still thinking of how I want to add just a few touches of green, I found a light green and white striped bedskirt but now sure if that will look right or not. Thank you again for very kind words!! JAG alska du pappa

Hiya Neighbor I got the eyelet duvet, now it's picking a bedskirt, whatta you think would look good? I've seen eyelet ones, scalloped, pleated, striped... Hope you ahd a great holiday! JAG alska du pappa
