Hi all.. I am getting a new sofa and love seat.. but i am having trouble deciding between the tan which is similar to my current set, or the mocha..
The first pic is my current room to show colors and such.. Then pic 2 and 3 will be the choices..
I think i am leaning mocha , and i know my husband is lol..This message has been edited. Last edited by: boolovespink,
Oh I see your dilemma cause I like them both too! geez, I'm no help, lol.
Grandmas my name & spoilins my game!
I would go with the Mocha, since your last sofa looked tan. So I think you will like the change.
Wowza! I see your dilemma...tough choice.
The tan looks similar to the current sofa color. So if you want a change Mocha which is yummy. It has a nice contrast with your wall color.
Looks like tan would work too.
Are you repainting the room?
~Like sands through the hourglass
~So are the days of our lives
At the risk of sounding like a grouch, why are you replacing with something that looks like what you have?
no, on the repainting right now.. i still like the sw restrained cold.. if i do repaint it i am kicking around sw copper mine which is similar to the color in my copper pillows, so i would still be ok either way.
jaysmom49 : mine is about 10 years old, and things wear out.. its not long enough, nor wide enough.. and squeaks when u sit on it. as we hang out a lot in our living room, i also sleep on it a lot because i have migraines and its quiet in the living room at night..
we like the style and colors, and it works.. i have shopped a lot and i do not like the modern new style, nor am i a formal person, so this comfy style works for us, and i am on a budget, so this just works.. its a couch not a permanet decision.. so for the 600 bucks i am paying if it makes it 10 years like the one i have now, i will be well pleased
I like the tan it works....but I think...oh shoot- I'm no help!! I think I lean more towards the tan- it really works in there.
I really like the tan but see why you would want to change and get Mocha. Both are pretty.
Enjoy whichever you choose.
Go with the Mocha for a change IF there is no difference in the comfort/quality. Another consideration also, since you are not ready to repaint, does it look nice with your current paint. It is hard to tell on my laptop monitor, but I am sure you have already taken that into consideration.
Gee, I remember when you were decorating that room (I think I had just joined this board). Didn't you move a door or window or something like that?
Wish I had your decorating energy!
Tuesday: these are the exact same couches made by Simmons, just each a different color : )
yes, it works well with my surrent color which is the sw restrained gold.
and yep, the door was were the loveseat now sits and a window to each side. We put in a nicer new door and put the windows together.
i have thought of totally redoing the whole room , but honestly i still like it.. our couch has just gotta be replaced due to age and comfort lol..
Whcih i know how i am, and i know when i get the new set i will start changing things again , lol. but either way i choose its more or less a neutral color, so will work pretty easy with ther choices..
We are getting ready to put down a hardwood floor also.
Your room is so pretty and the tan definitely looks nice in there but I think the Mocha will look just as nice. My vote is Mocha for a change.
WELL...... As always nothing in my life can be easy.. I received an email telling me i was misinformed on the dimensions of the loveseat.
This set may not work now.. It's looking like i may not be able to get it to fit ..
now husband is using this to try and get a recliner lol, which i am not against, but i can't figure out how in the world to get it to work out..
why is nothing ever easy
I too like the mocha. But, if you are looking for more room I don't think you'd get it with either choice as the arms roll so far down to seating area ( your current one does as well) that it eats into seating area and usable length.
there is a very big size difference between my existing set and the potential new one.. My sofa is only 33 wide and about 73 long.. the new is 37 wide x 91 long.
my existing loveseat is 33 wide x 57 long.. the new one is 37 wide x 69 long (which is what is posing the problem .. and we really want the overstuffed arms, as ares don't have enough padding and are not very comfortable.
I definitely prefer the tan!!!!
Why change just for the sake of change?
IF something works, leave it alone. But that's just MY philosophy. Everyone's different.
Not a matter of right or wrong - just different.
I still love my living room couch, the first piece of furniture I bought 40 years ago. Still has the same original covering in PERFECT condition. Still married to my first husband too. You can tell I don't get bored easily:::::::laughing:::::::::
Boo, take a look at Temple sofas. Not terribly expensive, but could be more than what you are looking at. My DD bought one - she was shopping for "smaller" style sofas. They are good quality, fairly traditional, and don't overwhelm a room.
Thanks Tuesday I will do that. We looked around some more yesterday. We found a sofa with dual recliners we both like, but the dang loveseat only comes with recliners too, and it is the same exact measurements as sofa.. arrrrrrr.. ( so then why do they call it a loveseat).
My bad problem is i want the bigger furniture , because what i have is not comfortable for us.. It is actually by measurement considered apartment size.. I am gonna keep searching and will check out those temple sofas.. I am also looking at rearranging the room..
Keeping the sofa is a must, but i am open on what other pieces i can purchase if i come come up with some good ideas..
any suggestions anyone?
I like your room just as it is.
Any luck with a sofa that will fit?
Grandmas my name & spoilins my game!
nope, no luck yet..
If you going to stick with the same or similar style I'd go with the mocha.
I think the size and scale of the sofas you are looking at seem pretty big for the space.
How many people use the room at one time? How much seating do you really need?
The problem I see are those huge arms. If you found something with a more streamlined profile, you could gain more space for the seating area without sacrificing floor space.
There are only 2 of us, and the cat ..
We are sprawlers though ,
Our lr sees lots of use...lol
My current set actually came from Big Lots and I paid $600, its Ashley.. it had made it 9 plus years, so i am very well pleased.. I am not a cheap skate, but i do believe you can get something nice & durable without spending like 2 k on a sofa.. My budget is around $1,000.. and the set above i posted about color is another $600 set from Big Lots and is Simmons..
Another thing is I only shop where I can pick up and take home.. I am a touch, feel, and try it out type. I have had too many bad experiences with ordering things.. Tons of stores keep telling up we can have it in 4-6 weeks, and we are not willing to do that.. We kinda need it now , lol.
I know where you all are coming from on the arms. Are current set is fine, other than being worn out, and i like the style they are nice without being too fluffy & big. But it is also the bare minimum of what i am willing to do.. I can not stand the straight armed sofas that are modern/ contemporary.. I would like to have at least 85 inches of seating space for the sofa.. as far as i am concerned the loveseat can remain on the smaller side like it is now.
Another problem i am having, is i am not intentionally trying to stay with the same exact look, but the furniture stores these days are all basically carrying the same thing.. I actually wanted a burnt orange set, but only Lazy boy can get it in 10 weeks.. . wow
I asked a guy yesterdy if he had anything but brown & red, he said they actually onlt had the red to break yup the earth tones, lol. This message has been edited. Last edited by: boolovespink,
I think you will be disappointed in the sofas if they are too big and overwhelm the room. At one person per sofa, you probably don't need 85 inch sofas. That is over 7 feet per sofa! Even if you lay down, you would have to be 7 feet tall for your head and feet to touch the ends of the sofa. That is a lot of sofa in a small space!
I am saying to use caution when placing large furniture pieces in smaller spaces.
Have you thought about a couple of 60 inch sofas? That is 5 feet of sofa per person. That might look better and still meet your needs.
And I think that since you are going to hopefully have these sofas for 10 years or so you should get what you really want. Waiting a few weeks for the color you really love is not such a bad thing in the long run. Better than settling for any old color.
my current sofa is 73" from end to end and i can't lay down without curling up, or hanging my feet over and i am only 5'4 on a good day lol . I know that those arms take up some of that 73".
I am willing to do a 60 inch loveseat again, which what i have is a 59" currently. But there is no way I am willing to do a 60" sofa, that is smaller than what I have ,even an inch smaller than my current loveseat which isn't working.. My husband is 6 ft and he would have a fit lol.
I for now know that the set I posted isn't gonna work due to them mis giving me the dimensions, but there has to be a happy medium. There are some choices I have made putting looks over comfort and i honestly regret it.. I am trying to be careful here with both this time. There has gotta be a happy medium somewhere , i just gotta find it, lol.
I ave founf a set at rooms to go we like, it is a double recliner sofa at 84 " long and a loveseat to match that actually doesn't recline think goodness at 64".. gonna try and take a look at it. There are actually 2 sets, but the mocha set doesn't recline but is same dimensions as reclining set.
I agree on the "sprawling" and need a good comfy arm to rest your head if you like to lie down while watching tv.
That was one thing I had to keep in mind when shopping for my sectional. The arm height and being able to rest your head on it comfortably...
Definately don't compromise on length especially if you are happy with what you have now.
I didn't expect this sofa shopping to be so frustrating & like a chore lol.. I thought I would enjoy, but i am honestly aggravated lol..
Those arms definitely make a difference when lying down to watch tv.. those little sleek arms on these "new" sofa just arent't cutting it lol
Well, I have a traditional sofa with typical arms, certainly not sleek at all and it's easy to stretch out on my 84" sofa. Must admit we are not "slouchers or sprawlers" so for the most part we have no problem with our length. And in my mind when did the general population become such slouchers/sprawlers? I thought everyone sat straight up like we were raised to do.
Boo, if you sit in a model that you really like, then do order it in a color that you'd like instead of settling for your second choice. And yes, furniture buying is a hard job. Good luck. This message has been edited. Last edited by: mamaspoon,
well, i became a sloucher / sprawler when i started working such long hours and spending lots of time in a hotel.. When you work 16 hr days for sometimes 10-12 days straight, when you come home you tend to just wanna be comfortable.. I am on my feet so much, the last thing i wanna do is sit up straight, i do good after all that to honestly hold my head up.. and the hotels are just uncomfortable.. I am not a sit up straight type, I am just me, and do whats comfortable.. i enjoy sprawling on my sofa after a awful week and watching netflix till time to go back at it, but thats just me
I love the resent mocha living room set you posted. I think it would go with your wall colors really well!
I am all for slouching, and relaxing on a sofa!
Just wanted to make the point again, that careful measuring is in order to make sure the sofas don't overwhelm the room. For instance my arm span is 63 inches, finger tip to finger tip. If I am sitting on a sofa and want to spread out my arms I know I don't need more than 63 inches in the extreme. I am also 5'6" tall, so if I am going to lie down on a sofa I am going to fit within 66 inches.
My point is that what we think we need space wise, and what we logically, and accurately need when we use a tape measure to figure it out, can be two very different numbers.
Of course you really didn't ask for advice on the size of the sofas, only on the color choice. I went ahead and talked about the size/scale of the sofas because it is one of the most common mistakes people make when buying furniture.
As for which color to pick, I think either color will look fine in the room. If you want to feel like you have made a change then go with the mocha.
Cocok : that makes perfect sense
i measured my set today and even though it is the 72 long, its seating space is only 60 "
so at the whopping 5'4 i am, thats why i am having trouble... my dh is 5"10 so when i go look this weekend i am gonna just start measuring the seating space at a minimum of 72" and go at from that point of view.
Maybe i can get that while remaining in scale, nebr hurts to try another way lol
Also , since i am having so much trouble with this, and furniture is so oversized.. I am going to look for a loveseat, since i need about 72" of seat space and most love seats are running 79".
then for what i would normally call a loveseat i am going to look for a cahir and a half ,lol
Maybe this will be easier and more budget friendly
found a furniture store outta the blue and stopped by in the pouring down rain lol.. i found this set and really like it for some reason.. maybe because its different from my current one.. and it has color
and it will fit..
so do you all think it would blend nicely in my current room?
I think it will work in your living room. It's the color you want and the size looks perfect. Was it nice and comfy?
i would give it about a 7 out of a 10 lol..
I understand i can't win at size, comfort and looks lol.. that would be too nice lol This message has been edited. Last edited by: boolovespink,
i like the set you found but wondering about that double pillow back...
now for me with a cat who has white chest fur, the darker mocha would show every stray hair, lol...and i worry while you want the larger furniture in the room, the darker color will make the room shrink.
sjf.. the sets at top are out of the running lol.. the new one i am seeking opinions on is the one just a couple posts up from this one The ones at top were too large due to a misgiving of dimensions ..
The new set isn't mocha at all, its actually almost the color of my existing set.. when u get up close to it, it has some other colors in it.
I like that set. It's more stylish with the wood feet and nailhead trim.
One thing though, beware of the double pillow backs. I had sofas like those and I was constantly punching them back into shape.
I like the look of this last one best of all you've posted.
I like it. I like the color and style. Looks comfortable. Has good arms for laying down!!
