Medium Brown Carpet in LR-PICS ADDED! Sign In/Join

I am considering going out of the norm, and putting down a medium (think cocoa color_ brown carpet. I have 2 dogs and 2 kids. I have one issue though, and need your opinion. The room gets a good amount of sunglight (north facing room) but I have darker furniture..not black but mahogany. I have medium toned green walls, with a lighter gold chair in the corner of the room, along with a dark leather chair in the other corner. Does this all sound too dark? Need pics? Let me know, and thanks a bunch!

Yes, please post pics. Carpet colors can be difficult. Light shows stains, dark shows dust, dirt and fuzz. Many of my friends have been using either berber, or a cut pile with some color variations/frieze. I just put a textured/cut loop light tan in my family room.

here are examples:

Thank you for the suggestions....I can't do a loop type carpet at all due to the 2 dogs I own. In fact, I chose a light warm beige loop carpet when we replaced 2 years ago. Now it's unraveling due to the dogs nails catching. Thankfully, the manufacturer is replacing. The one bad thing is that I have to stick to the same brand of carpet (Karastan). So I don't have a ton of options. I will go see if I can find some pics for you all! Some of you (Froo Froo) will remember these, I'm sure Smile

Please don't be angry with me but I must say that as I was picturing your room all I could picture was dark, dark, dark.
I think it's the green walls that bother me. Perhaps something a bit lighter and brighter like pale yellow or ivory?

I agree with others, sounds dark and boring, of course it might be nicer than that, can't tell without pics.

Do you have to get carpet? Could you get a laminate? I would not have carpet with dogs. JMHO

Thanks everyone for your suggestions so far. Here are the pictures of the room that needs carpet. The house is open concept so I have wood floors surrounding this square LR...getting a wood floor to match would be nearly impossible. AND...I HAVE to choose a carpet from the same manufacturer. I don't have any other choice, unless I wanted to lose almost $5000.

Another pic...I really like the swatch to the left...right up against the fireplace.

This is looking towards the rust colored couch in the room...note the swatch on the right (floor) which is my preference.

I personally like the darker one that you do. I don't think it'll be too dark at all. Love the color of your couch BTW.

Thank you! After I posted pics, I thought that maybe it's a bit more gold then what I was originally describing. Either way...I'll take all suggestions, so keep them coming please Smile

I don't think it's too dark either. Think it will be perfect. Your room is very pretty.

Thanks to all who replied so far. Here is another reason that I am leaning towards the darker piece (besides the fact that I have 2 dogs and 2 younger kids): While you can't see it in the pics, the darker carpet is the same color as the variations in our marble on the FP. It also brings out the darker grain in our oak wood floor that it will butt up against on 2 sides of the room.

There ya go...you talked yourself through it. It sounds like the perfect color for you. And with the quality of Karastan, down the road you could have it bound into an area rug if you decide to change to hardwood.

Thank you Belstone...I'm not completely convinced yet Smile I go back and forth. I had really hoped I would have solidified everything by now. I'll sleep on it a few more days, and see if anybody else shares their opinion.

Anyone else? Last chance, taking the swatches back tomorrow. Someone just tell me to do it! I'm just so afraid of regretting it!

I feel your pain Becky. I can never make a decision. Plus I always get buyers remorse : (

Good luck in your decision.
