Haven't shopped for blankets in eons. Looking to pick up a couple for our new basement bedrooms - winter weight.
Any recommendations around $50 or under? The beds will have comforters on them. They won't be used that much, just for guests. (Our first ones will be here for Thanksgiving, so gotta get these rooms done!)
How about something like this (be sure to use a coupon, if interested):
I usually check Overstock.com as their shipping is minimal and reviews are available for the products.
FF: thanks so much for the rec/heads up. Will be going there to check them out this afternoon.
Graciepj: and thank you for the Overstock rec.
I did check some of them them and was discouraged because some of the comments said they pilled and shed after washing. After I saw some of those comments, I thought I'd better buy locally in case I have a similar problem. I hate pilling & shredding.
If you have a Tuesday Morning store nearby, check out their bedding. We have gotten some awesome buys in blankets and sheets: all top quality, no seconds.
JC Penney, also.
I have bought several inexpensive micro fleece types at K-Mart. They have held up very well and wash up nicely.
I have gotten them embroidered as gifts and the lady who does it bought several herself because she was so impressed by the quality.
I bought some new microPLUSH (not microFLEECE) at Target... their own brand.
I wash my blankets at least once or twice a week (long story why, but suffice I do). I wash them like folks wash sheets.
These are holding up extremely well. No pilling. They are verrrrry lighweight, velvety, and warm.
Had them so far for about 6 months.
For me and my laundry habits, all our microFLEECE blankets--all from Lands End--are all pilled up and scratchy.
JCPenney has some nice ones by Chris Madden. I didn't see them online, but I saw them at the store yesterday. I bought one a couple years ago and it's holding up well. Nice and warm.
Thank you very much for all of your help. I'm on my way to go check out a few of your recommendations. Thank you again.
my fave are the 100% cotton ones..you might find a heavy blanket with a comforter a bit too much, esp in the basement where temps don't vary as much as upper levels...good shopping!
dh and i have a "fond" memory of sleeping in a very UN-finished basement as newlyweds...your post gave a great memory!
