Just want to say Thanks! Big Grin to those who posted over the years on how to save $ on framing costs.

I have this cross-stitch picture picked up for $1 at a yard sale. The previous frame and mat was terrible.

The stitchwork is not a standard size.

So, I followed the advice from here and put it in the smallest standard size frame, and then had a custom-size mat cut.

I wanted something simple-looking, that had a unpolished look to it given the subject matter, where it's going, where I live, etc.

The custom mat was $10. The frame was 50% at Hobby Lobby.

I put the picture outside to take a picture of it. (That tropical print is the glider outside.)

The added bonus in your case is that the colorful mat sets off the art beautifully.

That's beautiful! Looks like a big payoff for a small investment of time and money.

Nice to hear a success story. Thanks for posting.

I'm not a cross stitcher but I do admire the work and dedication that goes into these pieces. Your framed piece looks great.

Indexlady,

The mat and frame bring out the colors in needlework piece. It's fun to find those special items that relate to you.

Great idea to save on costs.Enjoy!
