my husband prefers the plain one . I thought maybe the track type would light up the hallway better but not sure if it looks right or if it hangs to low? We still have both so switching out is no big issue.

Well, it looks like the new light gives a lot more light, which is what I would like in a hall. So much easier to clean. You can put a dimmer on if you don't want so much light all the time. And it looks good to me.

The old looks fine as is. If the new ones "feels" right, I would keep it.

The first pic that you posted with the plain fixture, do you have a another pic showing the whole area? It looks like there is a window there but the pic with the track light I do not see a window. Are these two different hallways?

i like the track light. For a dark hallway, i'd definitely choose more light over the single one. And having a dimmer switch on it (and every light in the house) is a great idea. Dimmer switch is my friend, especially in the middle of the night. Smile

I do have a dimmer there.
THe pic showing the window is only because I forgot to take a pic before I took it down so that is actually another area but the same light we have.
THe track one is pretty expensive so if its not really going to look great I dont want to keep it.

I prefer the very first one. It doesn't attract attention to itself, but when a person does see it, it looks nice.

P.S. I'd also spray paint the dark parts a lighter color to blend into the ceiling more. Hubby spray painted mine with a stone looking light colored spray paint.

I think I would keep the old light until you find something that really grabs you. It's really hard for me (and others I'm sure) to tell by the pictures exactly how it 'fits'. But it sounds to me that it does not really 'fit' to you. My advice now would be for you to take it back and wait for the right one to come along.

You might find another track light that fits closer to the ceiling and wouldn't stand out so much, but just provide good light. Here is another light similar to yours, but doesn't seem to me to be as tall or lanky looking. It is 9.6" tall x 3.75" deep x 37.87" wide. It has 5 - 50watt lights.

And here is another--a little more modern, but slimmer and longer. It is 70.75" tall x 3.5" deep x 70.75" wide. It has 6 - 50watt lights.

Let us know what you decide.

I like the first one best. I like the other one and I like some track lighting but it looks out of place there, IMO. I like Tammy's advice, wait 'til you find something that is you.

It is a unique light. I can see why you chose it. However, I am just not feeling it in the hallway. Is there someplace else that you might be able to use it?

I vote for the first one. Track lighting is too contemporary for my taste. JMO

I think track lighting can go anywhere - it just has to be the "right" light.

I don't like the first fixture - it's something everyone has and not fun at all. I'm not sure I like this track light - I like it - and it is fun and different - and adds light to the hall - and I know about dark halls - don't like them - but if you're not WOW over it - then it isn't right.

Keep the old light - and keep looking - the right light will come along - there's a jillion of them out there - and you'll be glad you waited!

I have no idea what to look for . My problem is I want it to be pretty but I am limited as its not a real high ceiling so it cant hang down very far.
I liked this light but it just doesnt look right ......now after my husband struggled to get it up I have to try to get him to take it down. That will cost me Smile

I love to look for lights...they do make SUCH a difference!

I went thru something similar to your dilemma recently...and I am soooo glad I did not settle for the one that I thought would "do." Just like you I "liked" it but I didn't have that "oh that is PERFECT" reaction, know what I mean? A few weeks later the PERFECT one just appeared on my computer screen, lol. And I have been sooo happy with it.

And...bless you, I know all about the DH's & the light hanging...we (DH, that is) have replaced about 8 fixtures in here getting ready to sell...how many cuss words for all those? Well, let's see...8 X 100=??? LOL

One question: could you post a couple more pictures of the hall where your new light is to go?
