On the headboard for king sized beds, Froo mentioned bed coronas.
Since I have one and recently photographed it and how it is constructed think this might be a good time to share with anyone who has thought of this kind of bed feature.
My DH constructed the wooden part and since I was working in my shop at the time I hired a friend who does sewing to make the fabric part. that is the main drapery. I constructed the detail at the top which is napkins cut in half on the diagonal.
But here is a close up of front of the corona. This is made out of a single length of wood with another length fastened to it (see bottom inch or so)
I think what happened is that DH had gotten a new tablesaw and this was an exercise on that for him. The board is cut every 1/4 inch or so and almost through the whole depth and all the width. This allows the board to bend into a circle. DH then fastened the bent board to a flat board which is the base (or top) of the corona (the part that screws into the ceiling) The board is only bent 2/3rds to 3/4's of the way around and then joins a flat piece.
The decorative trim on the front edge is done the same way. The wooden element on the front is just a piece from the big box store glued on.
The whole structure is heavy and so I wouldn't have to worry about it falling on my head, DH made sure to screw it into the floor joists of the attic.
This is a plastic thing I got at a yard sale one time. I think it is supposed to be a shelf, but anyway since this attic room is all wood we just screwed it into the ceiling over DGD's bed.
