Greetings. I asked this question on the Cleaning and Organizing board but there is so much more activity here I thought I would pose the same question to all of you. We are in the process of purchasing a second home and I am gathering bedding, towels, etc. for the house. Since we won't be living there daily, I would like to be able to store our linens in something airtight while not in use especially over winter. I see a lot of mixed reviews online and want to know if anyone has an opinion of them. I mainly need to know if there is one brand better than another. Thank you in advance.
Hi Susan. I bought some years ago at BB&B when they first came out and I was disappointed in their performance. In short, the bags leaked and they weren't cheap even though I used coupons. I don't know if they've improved since then, but obviously, I am reluctant to spend the money on them again.

Although I am disappointed in your reviews, I knew I came to the right place to ask the question. Thanks everyone! I guess it's back to square one for a solution.
Don't know what you are doing with this property but I'll share what we did when we had a cottage and now with our 2home in FL. Cottage-- since we used it most long weekends in the summer, the only thing I would do is remove used towels. All bedding remained on the bed. When we closed it down in fall, we stripped all, washed all towels, sheets. I had a closet in bath for some storage, and used large wicker trunks in BR for extra storage. Also, I used BR dressers to store sheet sets, etc. We left comforters on beds and covered them with flat sheets. I do the same for FL, leaving comforters on and covering beds and sofa as well with extra sheets. Used those bags a couple of times, and they never held the seal that well no matter how hard we sucked air out. Good luck on finding a solution for you.

I had some of the bags leek so that they were not flat anymore. We used them when we moved to Florida. I used Totes to keep my linens in during the move to storage, out of state, then storage again and to the house. I got the kind that the top locks when you flip the handle, the other type opened when we didn't want it to in transit.
I would strip the beds and cover the bed with a sheet so the mattress breathes but does not collect dust, then remove and wash when you arrive. When we packed and moved our mattresses we covered them with a purchased cover to keep them clean.

Thank you Mary Ruth. We are eager to get moved in even though summer is waning. With luck we will have a few nice weekends to enjoy before the weather cools down. Thank you everyone for your advice. Mamaspoon your suggestions are very good. We will try those and hope for the best. One of our children has dreadful allergies, so we are trying to keep things as fresh and clean as possible.
I have used the space saver bags with success, but only for travel. I will often carry one in my suitcase so I can get my cloths squished down so I can fit purchases into my suitcase for the home flight. They don't have to work very long for that though.
I actually wouldn't store linens and blankets in them long term anyway. If there is even the slightest amount of moisture in the pieces, and then if they are closed up in plastic for an extended amount of time, they will most likely mold.
Some kind of bag that would "breath" would be better. Maybe a canvas laundry bag would work.
