Until I run across something smashing someday, I found this table at a flea market this summer for $25.00. I painted it with a stainless steel paint I picked up at Habitat for $5.00. I changed out the knobs as well to mercury glass knobs. I think it looks okay here. I have to say, with the the bottom open, the entry looks much larger. I just wish the heater was somewhere else. Now, if only I could get a closet built in this room. Edited to add: I forgot to add that the mercury knobs on sale for $2.00 each so this tables total cost is $34.00 but I still have a half a quart of paint left for another project. The paint I used had great coverage. BEFORE PIC:This message has been edited. BEAUTIFUL! Great job on the table and I LOVE that mirror! I doubt I would have noticed the heat vent had you not mentioned it.

It's really hard to get a good pic in this room as there isn't much natural light coming in. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg**** ![]()

Table looks great. Really brightens up the area. Good job. What heater????
|
Thanks frou Jaysmom, thanks. I'm talking about the baseboard heater under the table. They are a PITB. Always awkward for drapes (they most always put the heaters in front of a window). ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****

Again, what heater? I once read an article in an old Country Decorating magazine where a certain house was featured. The owner explained that she hated the green carpet in the living room but could not afford to replace her flooring at the time. She explained it with something like "make the rest of the room so wonderful that no one actually notices the floor." So again, what heater???

VG, you are very talented and resourceful. This is a beautiful transformation.

NICE! Did you think about a black escutcheon plate behind the knob? Or very dark gray to tie in the lamp and showcase those knobs? I thought of this because the shadow of the drawer looks like an outline of the drawer and really looks good. You can also paint the inside edge of that table around the drawer so that the shadow is actually darker. An escutcheon can be made from a thin piece of plastic, wood or metal and a hole drilled in the center and put on behind those beautiful knobs. Those mercury glass knobs are my favorites! I love your play on the textures, that branch and bowl with succulents really keeps that metal and glass from being cold. Good job on the execution of this vignette. Beautiful. All of your makeovers are always gorgeous.

Jaysmom, I get it now, GP, thanks MR, I have some of those around here somewhere. They are probably brass but could be painted. I'll see if I can find them. This drawer is actually a shadow box. I was thinking of adding a bunch of cool antique items in there but I don't want it looking messy. I've also thought of painting the inside of the glass so I could actually put anything in this drawer. As it is, it's not really functional. I may paint the inside of the glass the stainless steel too. Frappe, thanks MyLifeVacation, thanks I like how it looks for now. If I ever run into something fabulous, I will move this to the end of my stairway. The nice thing about this, is that it is narrow and fits well in the space. The challenge in buying second hand is finding the perfect size to fit in your space, especially when it is a tight corner. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****

Brenda, once again you have knocked it out of the park! It's good you showed the closeup or we may have missed the woven front of the drawer and at first I did not even notice the glass top of the table. The styling is spot on too! The strange wooden element and the cactus planted bowl are the yin to the yang of the glass pieces. Where did you get the mercury pulls? You are a very talented decorator. I just read the previous posts where you say the drawer is a shadow box. Don't paint the glass for now, you are sure at some time to come up with an equally fantastic display in it!

Very, very nice. Your creativity never ceases to amaze me. You make me want to go find a piece of furniture that needs some love. And don't worry about the baseboard heater, there's just some things we have no control over. Wanda

That's a wonderful transformation VG! Really looks great with the mirror. I would use the shadow box to display silver and crystal items, perhaps with a piece of black or white velvet under. You might silver leaf some shells. If you have any old glass knobs or more mercury glass they could be displayed. Great place to group small items that otherwise would have little impact. IMO things like electric heat registers are a fact of life in many homes altho it would have looked better if it had been centered on that wall. Annie thanks JC, wasn't sure how the wicker would look in a silver but it turned out okay. Adds some texture. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****
