Woo Hoo cha cha cha! I am doing the happy dance! I found my thrift store item today!!! It is totally not anything I expected, and I am surprised that I choose it, and best of all it was only $3.99!

Anyone else having any luck figuring out what they are going to work with?

I have what I think is a great idea, Cocok. Not too sure I will be able to do it, but I got the thought! Now if only DD lived nearby it would be a snap! (she is more resourceful and talented than I am)

I have mine done but I have some more ideas I'm going to do too.

How do you keep the pumpkins that are stacked on top of each other from falling off? I see a lot of pics with them stacked in urns and wondered how they keep them together.
Also, if you use the "artificial" ones, what could you use to keep the stack together. do you have to glue them?

And nance425. I have never made a pumpkin stack. I know you can buy artificial ones already made that way. If I were doing one with real pumpkins I would remove the stems and probably impale then on a dowel or spike of some sort. I would probably set the spike into some cement or plaster of paris in a container that fit into my urn, so that the stack wouldn't be top heavy. Of course once the pumpkins are spiked they will start rotting, so they wouldn't last all that long. Anyway, that would be my plane should I ever attempt to make stacked pumpkins. Might be easier to just buy the fake ones.

O, cocok, I guess I didn't clarify. I would be using the "fake" ones (from Michaels). Not sure I would want to put the cement in my pot as it would be permanent wouldn't it? Just wondering if a stake all the way down to the bottom of the pot would be enuf to hold at least 2 of them up. sizes.

What I meant about the cement is that I would put that into a container, and then put the container into the decorative pot. (so you could take it out later) I don't know of a stake would be enough to hold up pumpkins. Guess you would just have to try it.

Nanc, you could also hollow out the pumpkins before stacking them, that way, they wouldn't rot as quickly. I found this on you tube but I'd probably use hot glue to keep them in place before stacking on on the other.

O I see what you mean. This is the size pot I was thinking about putting them in. I guess I will have to figure out what to stick the stake into and whether it will hold up the light weight pumpkins. Hmmm...

VG: the pumpkins are the lightweight foam ones that you can get at Michaels. So, no rotting concerns.

If you are using the polystyrene pumpkins which are very light weight you could use florist's foam in the urn then make holes in the pumpkins to insert a dowel through all 3 and into the florist's foam.

If using real pumpkins concrete in a pot with a rebar to thread the pumpkins onto would be secure.

Joyluck - do you think I would have to glue the pumpkins together as well? We do get some 20-030 mph winds at times.

Nance, I would at least weight the urn if it is plastic or a light-weight metal one. It can't hurt to glue the pumpkins together altho I've had glue gun glue fail on some materials. A heavier dowel might be advisable also - not one of those flimsy 1/4" ones. You can also glue the florist foam into the urn. Is there a protected place on your porch you can place this? We don't get a lot of wind here so I don't have to think about that much.

My urns are on the ground one on each side of my front walk. I drilled a hole through the bottom and took a long piece of rebar (the stuff that goes through cinder block or cement) pounded it into the ground and plopped the urns on. Nowhere for them to go now. If you're going to pile the pumpkins on top of each other, you'll need a longer piece or possibly two pieces that you could wire tie together.
