We are really making some nice progress with the "renovations" that began in March. DH and I are so grateful for all of your ts and Ps. With out them we doubt he would be where his is in his recovery. DH is now working half days and DRIVING! He is scheduled to be discharged from PT within the next 2 weeks. OT will continue for months as there is still a lot of grueling work to be done. There are still many things DH can not do yet, and we focus on the "yet" because we believe he will get where he wants to be. The nerves to his right shoulder and upper arm ( deltoids) were the most damaged and his shoulder is frozen, so time, work and patience are key. We are both sleeping much better and beginning to add in some of the activities we enjoy. I just wanted to send you all this happy update. Hugs to you all! MaryAnne

WONDERFUL NEWS! I hope his recovery (FAST) continues! How exciting for you and your family! I am so happy for you both and your family!
Even shoulders can be fixed and worked with! I never listened to 'this is all the movement you'll ever get', which of course is now in my past and I overcame to full range. I do believe in miracles! And your DH is a walking miracle already, he can pull more, there is NO limit to miracles, none!

Thank you all for your kind and supportive comments. As horrific as DH's accident was and as hard as the work to recover is, we know we are blessed. He is making incredible progress. Of course, it still is not fast enough for him. Being able to resume normal activites without having to ask for assistance has been a huge emotional boost.

So glad to hear the great progress he's making. I am confused, though...when this first happened, I believed it was a car accident but you later mentioned a fall. Could you clarify? If you don't want to go there, I understand.
Best good wishes for his continued recovery and so very happy to hear your lives are beginning to be more normal.

thank you for the update. Keeping wishes up for full recovery. I have a wee bit of understanding as to what he is going thru, having been thru a couple of bouts of physical therapy (PT, pain and torture) and mine was a piece of cake compared to his injuries.

Mary Ann, Your DH's continued and amazing improvement is a wonderful bounty for all, including the members of this forum. What an example of fortitude, endurance, strength, hope and family support you both are for everyone who knows you and of you.
The internet truly is a wonderful aid, connecting people who can share so much in information and support and interest and kindness.
Belstone, I think Maine Lady's DH had a fall. . . somewhat of the same impact (spinal cord) as my DH's in the Fall, except in their case her husband's injury was much more threatening and serious, thus such a wonderful recovery is miraculous (at the same time it is the result of skill on the part of doctors and effort on the part of the patient who probably was in pretty good physical shape at the time)
Hi Belstone, homebody4 and Emily! Belstone, I don't mind clarifying at all. DH was at camp, after a day of snowmobiling with one of his dear friends, in the middle of the night he was sleep walking, opened the cellar door and fell down the stairs, breaking through a sheet rock wall on his way down. His friend heard a crash, found him and called 911. DH was life Flighted to 2 hospitals and underwent surgery for bilateral breaks in his neck. His level of injury was C4, C5. The Dr.told me that DH had a devastating injury and that I needed to prepare myself for him to be a quadriplegic, although they don't like to consider paralysis to be permanent until the 6 month mark. Fortunately, DH's injury was incomplete, which means the nerves were damaged, but not severed. The nerves can take up to 12-18 months to heal, so there is a lot of room for improvement. DH is doing so much better than originally predicted. His neurosurgeon is clearly excited about DH's recovery, as most people with his injury do not recover as well or as fully. So, as I type this, my heart is flooding with happiness. And Gratitude. Soooo many people, many whom we have never met, have lifted us up in Pr*¥ER and healing energy. His recovery is a miracle! We see his shoulder specialist next week and expect another good evaluation.
More hugs to you all!

Maine Lady - I'm just reading about this for the first time. I haven't been here in a while (obviously). Last I heard your husband was bagging some big game (in Alaska, maybe?) to decorate your house with. I'm glad I get to read the VERY good news right away. I feel good for you and him, and send good wishes for continued improvement!

Thanks, Maine Lady. I know it's been a miraculous recovery, but now that I know the details all I can say is...wow. He must have a guardian an gel. Sometimes, even the docs have to bow to a higher power. Bles sings.

Thank you so much for explaining how the accident happened! I was concerned more with your great news on his recovery, and thought he might have had breaks in his neck. TG the nerve damage was not as severe so as to immediately impede his progress in therapy! Great news, and wonderful of you to share with all of us! You both are stronger for all that you are going through together, and it is uplifting to read your wonderful progress posts. I can read between the lines of how proud and grateful you really are!
Sending some HUGs your way!

What uplifting news to hear of his continued progress..I'm sure that making this much improvement gives you both so much encouragement for the future. Hopefully your role as care giver lessens with each step of progress.

Thank you so much for updating us on your husband's injury and recovery. What a miracle you have witnessed!! I, too, am grateful for his remarkable progess toward full recovery. What a tough thing you both have survived! I suppose this falls into the category of "I wouldn't go through this again for a million dollars, but I wouldn't give a million dollars for what I have learned while going through it." Continued T's and P's for him, you, and all his physicians! Have a wonderful day!
ML.. thank you for the update and I am thrilled to hear this wonderful news. Ya'll have been through a tough time but I believe there's been a miracle and your DH is walking proof of it.
I think about ya'll a lot and will continue sending healing energy your way..
Thank you all! Good news is meant to be shared and I know many here on this board are holding good thoughts, sending positive energy and continuing to Pr*¥. We greatly appreciate each and every one of you.
I am needed less and less in my caregiver role, as DH is able to do so much more for himself. We have needed to hire help to do the projects we had planned for this summer, but our plans are to be able to get back to doing our own projects again next year. Soooo, the cabin is getting power washed and restained, we have someone coming to tend to DH's lawns (which he really misses doing himself)and I have met with a gardening company to go over the garden changes I had planned to do. They will make all the changes and mulch the old and new areas. All I will need to do is maintain them for the rest of this year. I believe I will have time to do that, and I look forward to it! Perhaps I will even have time to take a few pictures and post them. We shall see.
Wishing you all a gorgeous day!

Dear ML, so glad your DH is continuing to improve. I can only imagine how helpless you must have felt when the physicians initially gave your DH such a grim prognosis. I am sure his perserverance has amazed those same doctors! Good wishes and P*R*A*Y*E*R*S for both of you sent up from Georgia
