My son who is in he mid twenties purchased a condo and has asked my help in decorating it. I need your help, PLEASE.

I am trying to come up with a color scheme for the first floor which consist of a north facing living/dining room, south facing kithcen and the 1/2 bath is windowless. The walls are bright white with lt brown carpeting. So far the only thing he has to put in the living room is a medium gray circular sectional and a round glass coffee table. I was thinking that we would leave the walls in the living room white with an accent wall and painting the bath a medium to dark blue. I am also considering black and white prints with white mats and black frames. What color whould you recommend for the accent wall in the living room and the kitchen? Thanks in advance for your help.

I personally do not like stark white walls, I would paint the whole room one color and nix the accent wall.

Right now color on walls is so "in" and there are soooooooo many colors to choose from.

Can you post a picture of the room or even the couch so we know what colors you do have to work with?

If the living room, dining room, and kitchen are all open to each other I would paint them all the same color and treat the space as if it were all one room. If you are starting with medium gray and light brown for the living space I would use a much lighter version of one of those colors for the walls, and then find a nice, bolder accent color for accessories, pillows and art etc. that will bring some life into the color scheme, and then carry a version of that accent color into the small bathroom.

I am assuming that the condo is on the smallish side because of your son's age. Try to think about creating a total cohesive look throughout the entire space. Bold color on the walls in small spaces can be like someone screaming at you all the time. If you create a soothing envelope of soft color as a backdrop for your son's mid toned furnishings, and then use bolder color in small doses for accent pieces you will be using what is called "the law of chromatic distribution". It is a great formula for a space that is comfortable, easy to live with, and sophisticated.

Hi, my son is a little younger than yours, mine is college age/early 20's but we have a room for him here at home. We're redoing it (in prep for selling our house)& it is being done in khaki, black & white with a few red accents. Just judging from talking w/ him & his friends they like these colours.

Congratulations to your son on the purchase of his first home; I am sure it will be awesome.
And it is a great compliment to you, his mom, that he has asked you to decorate it!

I hope you will post some pics of the condo, that will help in coming up with suggestions.

I agree with cocok on doing the whole space in either a grey or brown tone, I wouldn't do an accent wall, often times it makes the space feel smaller. As for the bathroom I'd stick w/a light neutral, dark blue is going to really close the space in especially because it doesn't have a window. Try SW Macadamia that's what we used in our downstairs bathroom which also at the moment does not have a window (that will change soon enough though, I hate rooms without windows).
