Because we do very little by way of decorating I decided this year to just do the dining room as a fantasy of how the Snow Queen would have her decorating done.

DH got into too and made the sketch and the cake.

Can't remember which was the inspiration to do this project. I had been eyeing the faux fur trim for some time. It was 50¢ a yard and I trimmed the insides of the curtains, made tie backs and covered lamp shades with it for the chandelier. I like it so much on the curtains that I will leave them this way for the winter.

This is the cake DH made. The icicles were the most difficult thing and are made with a glue gun, (I ran a long bead on a marble slate) Glue gun kept hanging up and I don't know why, but did finally get as many as I wanted but spent a long time doing it. The icicles are also glue gunned on.

Another inspiration may have been this table cover (it is really a bed coverlet, I think)

This was a salvage piece at my favorite discount store. It cost $11 and is all cotton. It was badly stained and a woman nearby said "those stains will never come out" since I think I can get all stains out, I decided to try and all the stains did come out.

These items (the little St. Nicholas on the table was another item) were from Sandy. It always makes me feel bad when things like this are sold, but better, I guess that the retailers realize something from their greater losses.

Trees were 5.00 each and lights 3.00 each. I had tree toppers. Bases are some of my blue and white china covered with quilt batting then kitchen trash bags.

Oh HOW FUN! I love the icicles! I love all of it! that would be so much fun to come to your home and see all this!

Emily, I love the winter wonderland you and Ed have created. When it is snowing outside it will look like a scene from Dr. Zhivago.

I love this! It's so imaginative and really does remind me of the ice scene in Dr. Zhivago. Very, very nice LoS!

Emily, you sure have your creative juices flowing lately. I love the fur around the shades and drapes. I'd leave it on the drapes for the winter too. The icicles made with hot glue, fabulous. Love all the glass with candles and the sketch your dh did.

Well he does on occasion, but mainly he sculpts, and this cake is made out of plaster!

I wanted it to look like snow was falling and landing on the cake through the chandelier.

Eleven of my cousins, and that's not all of them, got together this week for lunch and one of them was telling about going to a decorated rectory, the priest there did it all, and the dining room was decorated in bridal stuff with a dress hanging down from the light and flared out over the table. One side table was full of cake toppers, there was all kinds of things that a person would use for a wedding on buffets and other tables. She said it was interesting but very busy. This reminded me of these pictures of yours when she was talking about it, not that yours is busy but all the white things. How did you make those icicles? Love the shades.

Wanda, the icicles were made by drippling a run of hot glue down a marble sort of cutting board thing. That allowed prying the glue off intact.

Charles, you know the Christmas store windows on 5th avenue (esp Bergdorfs?) those are the kind of images I really love. However those people work way too hard for me to ever have wanted that as a career!

Remember for several years HGTV had specials with the designers of those 5th Ave. windows and how they made all the things in there. I think that they started on the next years designs the day after this years windows were done. I miss seeing those windows in our downtown, all the stores are closed, we used to take our kids there to see them when they were small. How exciting.

Once malls came in that was the death knell for downtown stores. I remember a woman's store in Syracuse (my home town) that sprayed perfume out over the awning in the front. Now that would probably be considered a health hazard!

Emily, I thought he had a pretty fluffy looking cake made, lol. I love sculptures, wish I could borrow your hubby to make me a sculpture too. I'd even love to take an art course and do one myself.

The hand, so unique. I love that you and your hubby are unique, makes things very interesting.

Beautiful LOS, just beautiful! I love all the white...of course I love white even when it isn't Christmas. Sometimes it's nice to focus just on one room.

Lucky you that your DH decorates with you. Mine will put the lights on the tree but then he's about done

First of all I am kind of old right now (78) so actually I have lived quite a long time already.

Why should I want something created by skill, time, intelligence, diligence and time mocked and derided and then be told that not liking that is MY FAULT?

In all the time you and I have been members of this forum, you have never posted one picture of a project you have done or a room you have decorated.

For all of us who do so it requires not only the time to achieve the effects we are trying to create but to photograph them and to post them.
It does take courage to create. Does it take much to disparage those creations?

Much as I dislike it, I will be forced to quit an active participation on these boards because of you. Why should I have a dog nipping at my heels every time I try to share something?

You have a problem lady and I am not interested in what it is. But like any prudent person I will give you a wide berth.

Emily, that is simply not true, as many others here have commented on my home many times. In fact, I just posted one two days ago in a Decorating forum about Sofa back height.
