Hi Everyone,

I am expecting the arrival of my first daughter (in just a few weeks), and I am interested in doing a rich pink damask wallpaper on the accent wall of her nursery. The other walls in the room are a neutral taupe/mocha color. Because wallpaper is so expensive, I was thinking of only doing the damask wallpaper on the top half of the wall, putting up chair railing, and possibly doing an apple green paint for the lower half of the wall. The room will have mirrored accents throughout, with pops of green to tie into the bottom half of the wall. To all my great decorators out there, what do you guys think??

Congratulations!! Without seeing pictures of the walls of your nursery and the wallpaper swatches, my first impression is that there are too many competing colors for the walls. Stick to two colors (mocha and pink) on the walls and use apple green as an accent here and there, balanced with pink and mocha accents.

congratulations, lucky lady! You will be thrilled with your new one and so busy that I think I would postpone the damask wall paper for another time or another room.

This is quite a sophisticated accent (1/8 of the wall space) for the room of a new born. Esp if you are doing it on a budget.

50 or so years ago one of my friend/neighbors did a clever thing in her baby's room. At the time they had black and white coloring books of various children's stories in a huge format. My friend took the pages (Alice in Wonderland) and used them as wallpaper in her child's room. It was really a knock out visually and age appropriate.

You can add some glam in other ways than such an expensive accent. Sounds like you have good ideas and good plans.

For some inspiration ideas, I recommend going to: Rate My Space, Nurseries, Top Rated, All Time, Camryn Grace's Room. It is one of the prettiest pink and green nurseries IMHO. LOL

There are a lot of other very pretty nurseries there as well. I'm a visual person, so I love to view the pictures for ideas.

Enjoy every moment! It goes by very quickly.

I can still remember sitting in my rocking chair holding my brand new baby daughter and crying because she was going to grow up so fast....she just turned 41!!!! LOL I guess now they would say I had the baby blues.

Anyway, it is your home and your tastes, so go for what pleases you and don't worry about being too bold if that is what you like. You can always repaint if you don't like it.

EliteGlamDiva, generally, color scheme inspiration is drawn from a print such as a rug, bedding or window treatment, a pillow or even art. This inspirational piece not only dictates the scheme (hue values and predominances can vary), but unites the space. It's far easier to pull wall color from the inspirational source. That being said, a nursery can be a fantasy room and bold colors (esp. black/white/red) are favored by newborns. Once you've established the scheme, scatter it around the room.

To save moola, consider wall decals which you can custom position w/o commiting to them permanently. They come in a wide range of sizes and styles. Do a google to check them out. Optionally, using stencils are a frugal way to create a faux wallpaper on a focal wall.

Framed fabrics can evoke a fun feel w/o denting your wallet too. Framed decorative papers do the same. Both can be had for FREE upon request to stores that carry wallpaper books they wish to discontinue. How's that for a frugal solution?
