I'm at a loss. I've got this red and gold bedroom with mission furniture. Queen size bed with matching nightstands, one armoire, one chest of drawers and one dresser.
One top of the chest of drawers I found a beautiful round almost Aztec kind of medallion. It's pretty big and sits on a black stand. Oh, yes, the bedspread is kind of a geometric kind of swirl with matching valance but the drapes are a solid red, carpet is gold. The dresser is narrow and not very wide with an attached mirror. I have (and I'm embarassed to admit this, but hey, I like them), a teddy bear collection on top of the armoire. It's tall about six feet. Hey, what can I say??? It's the dresser I can't figure out. I went to Pier One and it's too oriental. I need a cross between mission and western, something or other. Oh, rats, I give up, I just need help. I like a whole lot of different things. |

Do you need something on the dresser? Sometimes empty space is good.

I have an arrangement of silk flowers (some people say NO silk flowers) on one side. I have an antique white platter with three small containers on the tray. I think they were for creams and powders. I have three taller perfume bottles standing behind the tray.

It is spring/summer - go to the art and craft shows - buy something unique and interesting - not something mass produced. You'll be happier with it. Also go to www.theguild.com and take a look at the beautiful things they have. What about a lovely piece of glass - lilke a blown perfume bottle, or a pretty frame with a picture of something you love, maybe a pretty jewlery box - there's lots of things you can do on a dresser top. When you see it you will know.

The modernist in me appreciates nothing on surfaces that doesn't get used frequently. In our MB, the only thing sitting on the dresser cabinets is a TV and a vase or two.
For me, less is more. ![]() |
