Lets do collections this month. I know many of you have interesting collections to share.
I collected these many years ago, and they have been stored away until a few months ago. Two have been broken. Don't know if I will collect more or not, but enjoy these.

and most of this milk glass was just found over time-not really collected, but became a collection when grouped. Had a collection of little chairs at one time, but sold most of them at garage sales, as they are a real pain to dust.

I've shown lots of pics of my china but don't think this has ever been one of them. This is pretty much behind a door and I am thinking of dismantling the whole display (tapes are stored in top cabinet)
Great idea for a thread, Homebody4 and I like your minis. They remind me of the painted lady Victorians on Alamo Square in San Francisco.
I was going to post a picture of some RCD houses I've collected, but I couldn't find the picture I have and they are packed away right now as I moved the cabinet they were in and changed the items in it.
Victorian Girl, What a great storage cabinet for your dish collection.
You're right, Lady of Shallot, I don't think I've ever seen a picture of that little shelf and its contents.
Some of my collections have gone since I'm downsizing but I still have almost all my silver. Will likely sell/give away some of it eventually too. Here's an old pic I posted earlier of some of my pieces. I use much of it daily, especially the large trays. I've also sometimes hung silver plates on the wall. I also have several sets of silver flatware. Most is from yard sales, some are family heirlooms.
I need to take new pics of the collections I still have.

Oh, and they have to have a name or initials and a date is a bonus that I'm happy to get but none of them are plain and I PREFER the name's but most were bought when we traveled and so would buy an initialed one if I didn't find a name one so I would have one to bring home.
Love some of the old names and my favorite is engraved "Florence Dalyrmple" -- doesn't that sound like it belongs at Downton Abbey?
Here's a close up of the top of the Chinese cabinet and the napkin rings.
My other collection I acknowledge is Victorian silver serving pieces. I've done many programs on them for various women's clubs for they find them fascinating -- each "food" had a certain knife/fork/spoon! I keep them handy in the drawer and yes, I do use them but no, not necessarily for what they were intended. My latest purchase was a horseradish spoon -- and we used it St. Patrick's Day for the corned beef's horseradish!
Goldiesmom -- you have the best collection! I love your sewing machines! And I know what you mean about things getting expensive . . . sort of takes the fun out of collecting doesn't it! -- when you find things they're way more than you want to pay!
goldiesmom, I had a little Holly Hobby sewing machine at one time. Sold it in the flea market. Your collection looks much older than that one though.
Wanda, I'm getting so that I'm tired of having so much stuff myself. I'm not joking when I say they are all dust collectors. I have tons of stuff to get rid of. Huge yard sales here this year. You wouldn't want to know how many boxes of linen I have to sell.
****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****
goldiesmom - that is simply the most wonderful collection (of anything) that I've seen in a long time. Think of all the little girls (ok and grown-up girls) who have played with those through the years. Such a visual history in each piece!
I've gathered 7 large plastic containers full of stuff to sell or donate. My tablescape days are done-bored with all that . hopefully not for 30 or 40 more years but I dont want my headstone to say- "she collected and she dusted"
I would say that I am not much of a collector. Except for the silly little things that are fun to me. Nothing really serious.
I collect those squished pennies when I travel. I always try to have a penny and a couple of quarters handy in my purse to put in those machines. I am not sure why I like them so much, but maybe it is because they remind me of fun, good times.
Here are some of my pennies in a little dish on my desk.
I don't know if you would call it a collection, because they are not grouped, but I have a "thing" for clocks. From where I am sitting, I see six on the walls or in the built-ins. I think I love them because of the immense variety in styles, shapes, eras, mechanisms, and finishes they offer. They are a real pain, however, when we have to make adjustments for time changes. It is then that I wish I'd stayed with collecting teapots.
I'm not much of a collector but do bring home a fridge magnet from interesting places I've visited -- but don't actually display them anymore. I prefer a clean and sparse fridge these days.
These items are magnets, a fan and pencils from auditions I've attended as a post-retirement avocation for Who Wants to be a Millionaire -- each summer they are held throughout the U.S. and NYC. I've gone 14 times to take the test, passed 11 times and had 12 interviews -- but alas, I'm not the perky interesting type of personality they look for...I've been to Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Cleveland, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and NYC many times. I'm looking forward to seeing where they will be this summer.

It depends on where the auditions are being held this summer. I am over traveling to NYC. Last time I was there I attended a taping of the Millionaire show and Martha Stewart but I'm tired of making that trip. This message has been edited. Last edited by: MyLifeVacation1,
Okay, I just realized that I do have a "collection." MLV's mentioning the refrigerator magents reminded me that I collect shot glasses from wherever we go. Probably because they're cheap souveniers and have nothing to do with actual shots.
Martha- love-love the silver, I would probably collect that and more blue/white dishes if I had room to store or display
cocok- we have collected the smashed pennies on our last 3 vacations for the little girl next door, last year we got 11 of them. Now I wish that I would have had some smashed for me also, didn't think of putting them in a bowl for display.
lady of shallot, I'll take some close up within the next few days.
I have some collection of silver creamers and pitchers, and now it appears I have a collection of mercury glass candelsticks. Didn't intend to collect but it just seemed to happen.

I posted this photo before, but still love my mercury glass cone trees (new ones not antiques). I have more but this is all I could fit in one place! Shows my house in Virginia where I had these set up for Xmas.

Here's another collection that is not intended as such but came about through necessity. My footstools!
These are the ones we use the most. DH's came with his chair. Mine is from an estate sale and the man's mother had needlepointed the cover. Those are the kind of stories I love about buying this way.
Five more. the little brown wooden one lives in a corner of the kitchen, handy for those shelves not high enough for a step ladder but too high for me.
The rush seated ones hold overflow books in the l.r. The little black one is to decoupage. The one it rests on is to use in the l.r. to get to higher bookshelves.
These are the footstools kept on the second floor. The butterfly one is what I use to climb into bed. The needlepointed is just high enough to sit on comfortably on those rare occasions when I want to wash baseboards!
All the collections are beautiful. When I bought my house, I found a bunch of flower vases in the attic that the former owner had left. I brought them down and started collecting. After 20 years in the house, I now have about 140 vases of all shapes and sizes. And I guess I could say I collect books too. I have 5 bookcases full of paperbacks, and hard backs, and I need another bookcase. I work in a library and I can't stand to throw away a book or even donate it to the library. When I find an author that I like, I try to collect all of their books. Some of them are first editions. I could never get rid of them even though they are taking over my house.

I finally took some pics of my latest rearrangement which shows another collection. This wall cabinet once held part of my pottery collection and later a dozen bone china teacups (part of another collection), all of which have gone. I'm now using it for my collection of glass fishing floats and some shells and rocks. I'm keeping this collection and may even add to it altho eventually will display it elsewhere.

Altho I've posted these before and no longer have these collections I'll post them anyhow. This wall cabinet was made by my DH with an old picture frame and is very useful for small collections.
I still have some pottery altho have eliminated a lot. These were some of the small pieces of handmade pottery I collected for years.
I have other bone china teacups but most of these have gone.
