I don't have much time to do projects anymore with babysitting my grandaughter. So when I can catch a minute to create something easy, I do it. I love using Pinterest, and I am enjoying seeing the use of shutters in all kinds of decorating projects. So I had some shutters sitting in my attic doing nothing but taking up space. So I decided to use one in this way. The letters cost me about $8. I glued the louvers shut after I removed the rod from the back, and then spray painted it. I spray painted the letters and glued them on. I hung the shutter with the 3M Command strips.

Hi Paintlady! It's so good to see you here...we miss you and your projects! I'm sure you're enjoying the little one.

Great idea with the shutters. It's always nice to find a new use for old things. Thanks for sharing with us.

Here are the new pillows and quilt I found for the bed. I'm not sure if you can tell from the pics but they are a soft grey color.

I still need to find window treatments for this room

I can't remember if I shared this or not, but here is the picture I found not too long ago. The other side of the bed has a mathing picture of a clam.

Clever project, Paintlady. Glad you shared it.

Nice find on the quilt and shams, Skyler. I couldn't make out the pattern, though. Is it a toile? BTW, weren't you going to post some cabin photos?

I don't have anything to show today, but I won some auctions over the weekend, so perhaps I will have received the items in time for next week's thread.

Thanks Gracie. Yes, it is toile. Yep, still need to get those cabin pics posted. I've been procrastinating because I have to go through and resize all of them (big pain). Oh ya, did I mention we took over 300 pics, lol. It will take some time....maybe I'll get to it today Smile
Thanks for asking.

Very good use of the shutter, Paintlady. In effect you made a frame of it!

Skyler, great to see "my" bedspread dressed with the beautiful pillows. BTW do you remove the spread at night or fold it down? DGD said it prohibited her from sticking her leg out under the covers!

I have a lot of things to share this week. First my most impressive find.

I found this rug at the swap shop a couple of weeks ago. Took it to the oriental rug company in our area (wonderful people) The man told me it is a Turkish prayer rug, worth between $200 and $600 depending on where and how it is sold.

Hope I haven't posted this before. It is a Bates spread I got at an estate sale for $10

A dealer acquaintance has a sale a couple of times a year. Got this creamer and sugar Labor Day. $3

Also bought the pressed glass beautiful (and heavy) pitcher and sugar bowl. $8 for both.

The lovely etched glasses were 6 for $5. Etched glasses are my favorite to drink from because the glass is so thin

Cute idea PL.

Skyler, love the room and the bedding. It's very pretty.

Nice finds Emily. I don't see the rug though?

LOS, yes I do remove the bedspread at night. DH is tall and he says the same thing about his feet. Plus it's usually too warm to have it on.

Great finds. Your glasses are very pretty!

Very pretty spread, Lady of Shallot. I missed the rug picture. Did you forget to attach it? I also like etched glass. One of the auctions I won was for some small etched wine glasses. I didn't get as good a bargain as you did, though. Here's a picture from the eBay listing. I just hope they all arrive unbroken. I've been experiencing a lot of breakage through the postal service lately.

PL, great little project. I am rarely online when my gd comes. Since she lives a 4 hr drive from me, I only see her about every 6 wks or so. Time to too prescious to waste on the computer when she and my dd are visiting.

Skyler, love the quilt. I love grey right now. Your bedroom is so pretty. Love your night tables too. Did you paint those?

Emily, did you show a pic of the rug yet? sounds like you scored.
Beautiful spread and I love all of your blue china.
I have a heavy pressed glass set that belonged to my grandmother.
That's funny about your gd. I can't stand having my feet bound up by blankets either. I always kick the blankets at the bottom to loosen them.

Remember the blue chandy I made and put in the entry. There were two problems with it, one, it didn't give off any light at all and two, it competed with the chandy in the dining room. I picked up this crystal one at Home Sense for $50.00. I love it. I absolutely love the floral shadow it cast on the ceiling.

VictorianGirl, I love the pattern that your light throws onto the ceiling! Beautiful.

As for the pattern on the glasses, the seller called it berries, but I couldn't tell what it was from the picture. I guess it will be a surprise once they arrive...LOL. I mainly bought them for their size.

paintlady,
Nice sign! I love it when I can find the time to create something. Makes me feel better. You did a nice job on that sign!

Skyler,
I love how your bedroom came out! The night stands are awesome, I love them and the lamps. The pillows and bedding are real soft and classy. I like the soft print.

LOS,
Great news on your rug! What a pretty spread! I like the white clean look of the bedding.
What a great price for that sugar and creamer. You found some real pretty pieces!

Gracie,
The glasses are nice, delicate etching on them.

VG,
What a beautiful light! I love the reflection it gives, I love it when you get shapes and shadows from a ceiling fixture! Beautiful!

Thank you.

Skyler, your bedroom finds look fantastic. Another beautiful "Skyler Space!" Love the print of your pillows and quilt.

LOS, nice finds. I particularly like the spread.

Gracie, congrats on your find!

VG, WOW! Love the pattern this light creates on the ceiling. Spectacular.

Gracie, thanks.
I love glasses too. I have a few too many though. I'm sure they will be pretty, whatever the pattern.

MR, thanks. My other light in the diningroom cast a very interesting shadow too. I love when that happens.

PL, thanks. It is pretty.

This is so weird. I kept trying to reduce the size of the photo for posting on here to what I usually use (400 for the largest dimension) and it kept coming out more than the 150 allowed here.

Anyway here is the rug. It is 42" X 62"

You all have wonderful finds, as usual. I haven't shared in a while, but I'm proud of my latest thrift art project.

I've been trying to stay away from art, since I have no more wall space and a closet full of "extras" but when I happened to stumble on these prints in Goodwill a couple of weeks ago I couldn't pass them by. As a long-time Austinite, I knew immediately what these were - the old "Palmer Auditorium" which has been torn down, and the gazebo on Lady Bird Lake (then Town Lake), looking at a very old version of the downtown skyline. For $5.99 each, I snapped them up. Here is the before.

I gave the frames about five coats of gold spray paint, then misted with ORB spray paint (maybe unnecessary), then finished with ebony stain. Got black mats cut at Hobby Lobby, put it all back together, and found ONE blank wall in my powder room!

Wow, that rug is amazing, Lady of Shallot.

Nitalynn, I really like those drawings and it's wonderful that they are from your local area. You did a nice job of redoing the frames and mats. I'm glad you found a place to hang them.

What beautiful finds, everyone! I just love it when I am able to find something I like at a really low price. That's the best shopping day ever. Thanks for sharing.

I took my DD shopping on Friday, trying to distract her from her misery while she waits for her baby boy to make his appearance. As luck would have it, she helped me find a couple of arm chairs for use in our living room. Yep, we went into Sam Moom to look at purses and came out with chairs. lol

Nice find, Lady50. Isn't that always the way...go shopping for one thing, come home with something completely different. Those are the best purchases sometimes, the things we find when we really aren't looking for them.

LOS,
That rig is pretty, love the colors! I'll bet it makes the space it is more cheerful!

Nitalynn,
I love those prints! How wonderful to find prints of places you are familiar with! They are well done too.
I like the ORB (oil rubbed bronze?) overlay you did. I like the Ebony stain, makes the frames look old and rich with color and patina.
I like the black matting as well, they look like dark charcoal color through the glass.

Is the glass 'knock-down' type?
Great find and creative 'save' on the prints!

Lady50,
A pair of chairs! Love it when you find a great pair that fits into your home decor! What a FIND!

Hope DD gets her 'arrival' soon!

Wow, more great finds! Thank you to everyone for sharing your goodies and your projects with us. So much talent on this board.

VG, I'm afraid I'm not as talented as you so, no I didn't paint the night tables. I bought them like that. I wanted something that would double as a nightstand and give storage.

lilsophie, I'm trying my darndest to remember the name of the wall color and I'm coming up blankFrown I know it's a Benjamin Moore color. I may have some left in the garage so I'll check when I get home and let you know.

Thanks, Gracie and Mary Ruth. Mary Ruth, I'm not sure what you mean by "knock down" glass. It is non-glare, which is always my choice, so that was a bonus that they already had it, since it is substantially more expensive. I'm glad you like them - I do too!

Lilsophie, I did have some extra paint in the garage. It's a Benjamin Moore color and it's called Iced Slate. I love it and so does DH.

Nitalynn,
Yes, knock down glass was what Ben Franklin craft store picture frame department called their non-glare glass. Sorry, I figured it was an industry standard name. I was told it was not as 'frosty' looking as the typical non-glare glass, and diffracted less light so as not to look too frosty.
I know they have come a long way in the industry in making glass less reflective so we can see the print better under it.

Thanks for the clarification, Mary Ruth. The glass on the prints was from the original framing, which would have been back in the 70s or 80s I'm guessing, so it's from that era.

Emily, that is a really different looking rug. It almost looks like a rug on top of another rug. Pretty colors in it.
My pics were always doing that, then I discovered that I had to put them in jpeg (think that is what it was). I am not the most computer literate person around, that's for sure.

Nitalynn, great find and great makeover. I have a hard time walking by art too.

Lady50, that's funny. I always come out with things other than what I go for too. The chairs are really nice. Nice and neutral too.

Skyler, get out of here, you are too talented and besides, it doesn't take much talent to paint a piece of furniture and hilight a few areas. I love them and they are perfect in your room.
