I posted on the landscaping board, but thought I'd try here too. More peeps! We inherited a Japanese Maple (cutleaf?) when we bought this house. It has sprouted leaves and they were a brilliant red but now, some are turning yellowish. Is this normal or are we in trouble? We've never had one, so don't know what to expect. Two things you should know...I did a little pruning about a month ago (just the long branches that almost touched the ground and the dead wood). My bad. And last weekend, we pulled all the overgrown shrubs behind it out. We were careful and didn't seem to be disturbing the tree's roots (the shrubs had very shallow root systems for the most part with one long root on each.) What's up? **Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning to dance in the rain**

Belstone, I wish I could help but my thumb is very brown. I'm surprised we have any flower beds surviving at all. I do think I bought one last year though but it is a little baby yet. I just throw them in the ground and hold my breath that they grow. ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****

I have a Japanese maple in my planting bed. The leaves are brilliant red when they first sprout and eventually turn a greenish brown. I think what you describe is the same thing--normal.

Belstone, maples are prone to iron chlorosis, you might want to research that. Not saying that is the problem with your maple, just a possibility. Pruning shouldn't be a problem, my maple looked so much better after I pruned it and it really grew a lot that year. I hope you're right! Thank you. Oh, and vg...thanks for nothing! **Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning to dance in the rain**

Glad I could be of no help ****Look at objects not only for what they are, but for what they could be, vg****

I've got three of them. One of them DH had to drive a screw through to keep the branch from falling off the trunk after the four feet of snow that was piled on top of it melted, and it's doing fine. So I'm guessing that yours will be fine. I'm going to look at them when I get home and see if any look like your describing. Wanda

Mine changes the same as sms29s66's - I wish the red wouldn't change... You received some good information on the other post too. This message has been edited. Thanks everyone...KG, I checked out the other board...thanks! So we decided to check out neighbor's trees and the one we found so far, looks exactly the same as ours. Unless we've got a local problem, it's probably normal. I hope! Thanks again! **Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning to dance in the rain**
