Re-strapping chairs.
I've got two of these that I'm going to refinish, but they also need re-strapping.

Estimates from the pros are anywhere from $75 5o $120/chair, so I'm looking for a possible DIY solution.

Anyone have any experience with this??

thanks,
Margaret

What I would probably do with this chair is to have a piece of wood cut to fit the chair (1/4 or 1/2 inch plywood) I would then upholster the board, using a foam cushion that is covered with muslin, then quilt batting then another layer of muslin, then whatever fabric you choose for the seat.

Strapping is only the base for a cushion that needs to be made anyway. The method I suggest needs no sewing, only a staple gun.

the method I suggest above is the same way I upholster a headboard, except that for a chair I would use a cushion.

LOS has a good solution otherwise you would need to purchase webbing then have a webbing stretcher tool to stretch it tight.

The board method is just more padding on what you might do to cover a dining room chair seat. Much easier and actually stronger than webbing replacement.

So nice to have a pair of chairs the same.
