Hello!

Just wondering...

When carpet is installed in bedrooms does it usually extend into closets also, or do you leave the closet floors bare?

Good question. My take on this and what I do in my house (and former houses) is to make the closet have wood, laminate flooring (looks like wood) or tile.
This makes the dust easier to get up with the vacuum.

I find that carpets 'add' dust to a room in that they shed some fibers, and we are not apt to vacuum as often in the closets, so it builds up a bit, over time, the dust mites build and it is harder to get the dust out of the corners in a closet, especially if you store shoes on the floor. Also IF a pair of (mostly DH's careless placement) dirty socks sit on the floor... the odor is transferred into the carpet.

If you are going to carpet the floor in your closet, try not to store anything on the floor so that when you vacuum your bedroom, doing the closet at the same time will be easier for you.

In some new homes, especially houses built on slab foundation, there is concrete on the floor, so you need to cover it with something.
And in older homes, if you are lucky to have hardwood flooring, refinish it in the closet as well so you can enjoy that beautiful floor!
Some homes have a sub floor and that is not attractive enough to use as is. You can install vinyl flooring in the closets as well for an economical solution.

I extended carpet into mine. I wanted continuity.

I no longer have carpet but on the 3 occassions when I did have carpet installed, it extended into the closets.

Always extend mine into closets.

Carpet has always gone into the closets if the room was wall to wall carpeted, in any of our homes.
Another possible advantage?
If you ever have a damaged area of carpet in the room, sometimes a replacement patch can be made of the closet carpet.

Personal preference, IMHO. If the closet's a large, visible walk-in and basically an extension of the room, you might want to continue w-t-w carpeting, if that's the bedroom flooring. OTOH, some people prefer cleaning h/w.

Another option that we've selected many times: cedar flooring.

In our carpeted bedrooms, the carpeting does extend into the closets. In those w/ hardwood flooring, the hardwood continues into those closets. I admit, it's far easier to dust a hard surfaced floor, but I also agree that continuity of flooring is prefered by most.

I have hardwood in this house but in my previous ones where I had carpet the carpet extended into the closet floors.

I hope I never have to go back to carpeting. So much easier to keep HW clean.

Yes, carpet in the closets too. Installers will need to add tack strip for the carpet if it's not there already.

I have hard wood floors in my bedroom but my closet is carpeted! I'm usually in there in bare feet. Love that we have carpet in there. So, I would say "Yes, put carpet in your closet."

My bedrooms have hardwoods as do the closets. I like the continuity of flooring.

ours have carpeting, but it's also part of the insulation, if that makes sense?? we have a story and half (only the back of the house is full 2 story and the way the closets are(upstairs) they're right next to attic space...and very cold here in mi...
