What started simply enough has ended up being a big chore!!!

But isn't that always the way it is?

DH moved one of the wing chairs so he could see the fire while laying on the sofa.

I really liked the look for it made the room seem bigger and we could pull them closer to the coffee table if we have company -- so I kept them that way.

But . . . the desk was behind one of the wing chairs and it was too close so it was a pain to get in and out of the desk to get things.

Today, I took everything out of the desk and everythign out of the Asian cabinet by the front door and switched them!

I put a big plant and a big ginger jar on the Asian cabinet -- really like that -- and hung the picture back over it and it really looks better!

I think the secretary looks better where it now is (and it had lived there for a long time before I moved it across the room)

I'm sitting here and I'm happy -- I think it's a better look.

I don't have pictures of the after but will post when I do. (And I'll post befores as well)

I'm not sure if I'm happy because I needed a change or if it really looks that much better the way it is now.

But boy, am I tired -- have company for lunch, was in the process of unloading and moving when a friend stopped by (with a sack of fresh lemons from California) and we had tea and dessert and so with a full stomach (and the second piece of dessert in a short period of time) I finished the job.

And then I did the luncheon dishes (by hand -- it was the good china -- but at least there were only 3!)

THAT'S why no pictures!

Well, I can't wait to see pictures! I have always found that I have to have some type of change this time of year. In the past, when I was still "getting the feel" of this house, right after Christmas was always when we would rearrange furniture. Once I got it settled, I still always end up changing up accessories of some kind after Christmas. Even when I think I'm not going to, it just happens! And I agree with you; it feels great to look at something that's just a little different!

When it comes to room layouts, periodic tweaking can breath new life into a space for sure. This is perhaps the most cost effective way to bring in impact along with a new wall color or slipcover or rug. Enjoy your "new" perspective.

Not a good pic but the Asian chest by the door -- with the same pic over it.

I think perhaps one of the reasons I was not enamored with it was with what was on top -- DH cigar humidor and whatever else he brought home and laid on top!!!

Lovely room Martha. I now have serious green eyes over your secretary with the beautiful bonnet. I was offered one very similar to it years ago and the foolish side of me turned it down and I can't seem to get over my stupidity, esp since it was a family piece. I like how you've place your wing backs even tho they're different heights. Nice touch.

Beautiful room and lovely arrangement. I can see why you like it with the chair by the fireplace.

For me, I started moving and tweaking after I took the holiday decorations down. Everything seemed so bare and I wanted to warm everything up for the winter months.

Once I start playing I can't seem to stop. Tweaking is my *specialty*. LOL

I like the changes you made. Remember good design HAS to serve a purpose and you just made your design serve you better!

I LOVE your ceiling color with the lower piece on the crown complementing. As well as the gold color brought throughout the room in the lampshade and screen. Has a warm glow as if catching warm light from a big fire in the fireplace.

I agree both B&A are nice, but to have the room also work better is a great PLUS!
