I have a grandson due to arrive and I am decorating one of our guest rooms and turning it into a nursery for when he arrives and come over to nap or spend the night.
Anyway, I have bedding from my other grandchil that I am using (picture attached) but it was in our other house so the window situation is different.
Do you think, for a nursery, it's better to have just a window valance or would it look beter to have, say, sheers that frame the window? My style of decorating is very modern/contemporary.
The walls right now are just a cream color, so I can go with either a yellow, a blue or a green......
Justjosie, it would be good if you can post a picture of the window(s) wall. That way it would be easier to have an opinion as so many things enter into it. . . including light control, size of window, size of window wall, paint color in room etc. etc.
I think the important aspects of a nursery window treatment are the ability to darken the window for sleeping and the assurance that there's nothing hanging down for a toddler (thinking ahead) to grab.
I like to be able to control the amount of light filtering in a baby's nursery...so with that in mind, if you have blinds on the window already, I would do a box type valance or just plain straight panels that don't require closing. On the other hand, if you don't have blinds on the window, I would install full length panels that can be opened and closed as needed. Whether the panels are lined or not will be dependant upon the amount of light filtration you desire in the room for the baby.
RE. type of window treatment for a nursery, I agree w/ those who addressed the room darkening aspect so the infant can sleep/nap well. I like panels w/ room darkening lining or panels. Personally, I buy panels I can launder and hang room darkening panels seperately. Penneys and Bed, Bath and Beyond are two sources for the rom darkening panels. You can still feature a valance if you desire.

I love the whole look! The animals on the wall are adorable. Like others have mentioned, you should get room darkening window treatments. Panels, shutters, or shades could work.

We, too, have a grand baby coming in the next few weeks (our first). We chose to use shades AND sheers which can be opened or closed. With the shades down, the room is quite dark. With them raised but the sheers closed, we have filtered light. I think it is going to work well for us.

Thanks girls, I will post pictures this weekend. I ordered the green panels. The blinds really do darken the room, so I think the panels will be just fine.
