What do you think of tin backsplashes? We're building a log house and we're considering the tin.

I love tin back splashes and think it would look great for a log cabin. Maybe a coppery one with a nice patina. But that would depend on your other fixtures.

We have a friend who has a Victorian and did their backsplash in tin -- looked really good.

I just ordered enough old tin tiles that are painted, but chipping from a guy who deals with old architectural pieces. Got a great price the pieces are 12X24. Thought I'd see if they worked when I redo top cabinets. The pieces were cheap enough that if they look terrible or I don't like them for a backsplash I can use them in some other project.

P.S. The guy on ebay now markets them as a backsplash idea

I love them I think they are so pretty especially in the silver and white. A friend of mine is doing this in her kitchen however she found these in some sort of rubber material I know the ones she's using are not real tin but to look at them you'd never know it they look like real tin.

"A Former HGTV Viewer"? Hmmmmm...lost interest or too busy to catch a show or two? Just wondering. I know you're not alone if the answer is greatly in part to losing interest in some of their more recent programing. I too don't catch as many shows as I once did. My DH and I are particularly turned off by the camera darting to and fro and annoying hosts of late.

BTW, love the tin backsplash idea as long as the patina is in keeping w/ your kitchen style. Go for it!

I can't watch it anymore. What with herky jerky cameras, silly host and designers that can't design. It's really sad.

I'm thinking I like the copper backsplash but I don't want it too shiney. Something with a nice patina maybe. The cabinets will be knotty pine in keeping with the log house. I've looked at some knobs and pulls and like the oil rubbed bronze but don't know how that would look with the copper.

I seen some that looked like tin but were a panel made of some really light weight material at Lowes, it came in different finishes but I have no idea how it would hold up. Good luck, I know whatever you decide it will be nice.

I love the idea of tin tiles as a backsplash. I think it fits with many styles and looks classy and interesting.

I think it would be necessary to use several clear coats, matte if one doesn't like shiny, as a protective finish to make cleaning easier.

There are posters who have used anaglypta type wallpaper as a backsplash which gives a similar look to the the metal tiles.

Joyluck, I just looked at a few pics in your collection and they are truely a "inspiration4u"! Why can't HGTV show rooms like that? Instead of the macaroni glued to cardboard type crafts they decorate rooms with these days.

I just recently put some in my kitchen that are ORB but have sort of a copper background. When I get home I'll check to see if I can find a picture. I bought them at Home Depot and they weren't to expensive.

Here is the one I got at HD. I bought it as part of a multipack but I think they are phasing it out. And here is the link to the company that makes it. knobs

I love the idea of a tin backsplash too. I think it looks so pretty and a bit different. I like that it would be a little easier to remove than ceramic tile if you got tired of that look.

I've done searches on here and RMS and I love the way it looks. I think it comes in a bronze finish too if you wanted to do something that would match your knobs. I'm drawn to the copper and oil rubbed finishes too.

If you end up doing this in your kitchen, please let us know. I would love to see pics. Good luck!

We will be remodeling our kitchen very soon. I have chosen the tin tiles for both the ceiling and the back splash.
It would look great in your area.

All posted right here at HGTV message board, many of them posters homes! Why HGTV is ignoring the talent here is beyond comprehension.

Lee Ann,
Did you do your ceiling tiles yourself? Are they painted? I would love to do this in my kitchen but not sure how I would end it going from the kitchen to the LR since it is open.

These are armstrong 12 x 12 tiles painted with modern masters metal effects paint and patina solution. I painted the tiles then hung them. They were stapled to the wood slats of the ceiling.
