I've had this old cabinet for a while now - it was a total curb/trash pick and I put it back together and painted it bright red. It has now been back and forth due to several moves and is showing wear.

What would you do? Sand lightly and do a black glaze over the red? I don't really want to paint the whole thing, but it is such a nice piece that I will if the right inspiration hits.

Any ideas? Just get more red and give it a fresh coat?

What a cute little cabinet to play with designs.

1) Add a stained wicker over lay to the doors.

2) Paint out the doors in a harlequin design.

3) Fabric panels with a fun fab using starch.

Thanks - those are great ideas and outside of my vision so glad I asked! I hadn't thought of fabric, texture, or even stencils. I keep it in the DR and we will be repainting in there to match the rest of the common areas. Plus I'll put a new table in sometime this year (fingers crossed).

Now maybe I can rethink it and get some color in that room...

You didn't ask about the hardware, but I would paint the hinges to match the knobs.

You could take some black paint, thin it down to a melted ice cream consistency, then rub it down w/ an old t-shirt of cheeze cloth. If you don't like that, then since it's all paint, you can just paint over it.

I would wait until the DR is painted and then paint this little gem the brightest coordinating color in the rest of the decor.

The large living room and part of the hallway are already painted with the color (BM "Malton") so we know what it is like. DH was thinking we could bring in a little pop of turquoise/blue with this project. The DR right now is an orange - a nice color but too dark for the space.

I love Beau's Rose idea of the fabric overlay and her fabric swatch!

this is also posted on MMF today, but it gives you an idea as to the turquoise color with the wall color that we will use. I would like to (maybe) mimic the color and finish of this little plant table.

I much prefer the idea of painting it to any other option. The turquoise you post is great.

Yup! But bear in mind it's a fairly good-sized piece so if you paint it a bright color you'll only want small dabs of the same accent color around the room. I also agree w/ the person who suggested painting the hardware so it all matches. I wouldn't necessarily paint it (because hinges are moving parts the paint will eventually crack/bubble/peel, but I would definitely spend a few bucks on new hdwe so it all matches and I think the type of hdwe you go with will depend on the color you finally decide on. Or, if you want to go with the fabric inserts, what about matching the fabric to the chairs in the room (if they are upholstered)?
