Last fall, I found these engravings at an Estate Sale and last week found the frames. I was looking for little thing gold frames but couldn't find them but found these. Instead of putting them in my downstairs bath (as planned), the frames were too big and so I put them in the guest room.

Martha, those are beautiful and look terrific in your guest room. The frames really seem to match the personality of the etchings.

I love to scour thrift stores for old frames. Even if I don't like the picture in it, I buy it just to use to frame. An inexpensive way to get some original frames.

Thank you so much Skyler for continuing this positive thread to start the new year 2013!

This thread has been such a positive experience for me and I appreciate your dedication and positive attitude towards this topic!

We all love to find treasures, and to share those in a positive way brings such JOY!

Linderhof,
I remember the engravings, I think you did post them on MMF's!
I LOVE how you did those with those frames! They have a classy look as if they were always in that setting!
I think IF I were to stay in that guest room, I might not leave it all day, so many books to read in bed! Well... the smell and aromas of your cooking would coach me to come downstairs!
You should open a Bed and Breakfast!

Skyler,
I also look at old frames, when I had a basement with my workbench in a corner, I used to have boxes of frames I found for under $1! I loved making sets of prints with the matching ones.

And NEW FLOORS! How wonderful, will be looking for your MMF post!

AS for ME:
We continue to de-clutter and un-clutter in the garage this time! Now the new Mantra is to NOT clutter! And how do we do that by having a place to put things, by ADDING shelving and storage solutions. We are working on shelving for the garage, things we need often within reach... I AM LOVING it!
Not making pretty YET, rudimentary shelving and sorting. Once all is organized, we can rethink how it will all look.

DH is not a visual person, so it was important to sort and then divide and conquer the first corner (1/3 of the one car garage nearest the back door), was emptied, then sorted then choose what should go nearest the door, then build a quick sturdy shelf to store that.

Eventually we can remake any of the storage solutions once we KNOW what we are going to store there! DH likes to see things on open shelving, so we will work with that concept. But I think there are some things we can put behind doors. Long process but we are gaining ground. I am HAPPY!

Sigh of relief, I no longer hate (so negative thoughts about garage lifting!) the garage, it is starting to look more friendly and a place to get project tools and supplies ready for our projects! Smile I will think Positive thoughts now when seeing the garage out my back door off the laundry room.

I am also thinking of painting the garage ceiling light blue, so good weather will always be in the garage no matter what the weather outside! (I step out the back door into the garage for only about 6 steps, then out the side door to the side of the house and out to the driveway). I had been using the front door a lot to avoid seeing the garage! LOL

So my MMF IS a more POSITIVE space to walk through and more organized storage in the garage! AND I gained more tools and supplies, because I CAN access them and quickly!!! Smile

My chairs came! I talked about them last week. Our Christmas present to each other. We got 2 of the chair on the left. We have 6 of the chair on the right that we will refinish and upholster the seats. I'm really happy with them. I like how the shape of the top of both chairs and the legs are similar. Sorry for the flash. They aren't this light of color IRL.

Daciab -- Those chairs will look smashing together!

Skyler -- congrats on your wood floors --you'll love them!

MR -- Whenever I tackle a big project -- I do "babaysteps" -- an area (like 1/4 of the garage) or a time (1 hour) and then I stop . . . it makes the project less daunting -- you seem to have accomplished something and before you know it you're done!!! Organizing is crucial that's for sure -- the basement, garage and attic are on my "hit list" for spring (when it warms up enough to get in garage and attic!)

Thanks to all who participate and to Skyler for hosting this most enjoyable thread each week.

Mary Ruth, I had a "duh" moment while reading your post! I read it as...paint the ceiling light, blue. I was wondering how that would be??? Then I realized that it meant paint the ceiling, light blue!!! Haha.... I am too old to be left alone!!!

Those frames look terrific with your engravings, Linderhof. It's so nice when you finally can pull together a project that you've envisioned, isn't it?

Skyler, whatever color of wood you choose, I know it will look great. I do agree with Sjf that darker floors show the dust badly and there's plenty of dust when you keep your home open all of the time as we do in California. Will you move all of the furniture out or try to move it from room to room as you lay the floors?

Mary Ruth, congratulations on starting the process of reorganizing your garage. I'm still working on getting the Christmas decorations into the appropriate boxes and back into storage. I tore a calf muscle, so I'm moving pretty slowly.

Daciab, how nice to see the two chairs side-by-side. I'm glad you are pleased with the two arm chairs now that they've arrived.

Other than working on organizing and storing Christmas decorations, I've been thinking about what fabric to use to reupholster the sofa and loveseat in my living room. The sun has damaged the fabric that's on them now and the fabric is starting to shred. My last house didn't have the same exposure to direct sunlight. I brought a bunch of samples home to view with my area rug and other upholstery. Whatever I choose will be pretty neutral as I enjoy changing out pillows and throws seasonally.

daciaB,
I think the chairs on the left were delivered to the wrong house, weren't they supposed to come to MY house? LOVE them, LOVE the scale!
I see similarities in the barley twist legs the arc on the back the square seat. LOVE the stretcher on the new chairs! The nailheads are a nice touch too. You must be THRILLED! I also love that the seat and back are different colors.

Linderhof,
That is the ONLY way I can do things now. I am hurting from head to toe, but still have a SMILE on my face! Smile

Grapefruit! LOL, I will go back and check the sentence structure... French was my first language, and English only came to me at 10 after learning how to think in French, AND sentence structure... French say adjectives after the noun... etc. So house white in French, white house in English which is a confusing language.

Gracie,
Thanks! DH is like 'pigpen' from Charlie Brown, where ever he goes, dust rises and messes appear! HE is like a messy teenager who won't leave home! LOL (not that I want him to). I have to watch him and keep after him in order to have a clean tidy home.

OH OH, I did damage to my right foot in August, xrays do not show any bone issue, the tendons have calmed down, but walking on it hurts. I see a foot doctor soon. I just hate foot problems, they keep me from being as mobile as I am used to being able to go where I want to go when I want to go! LOL

I hope you post B&A photos! An upholsterer I met said that people get the backs of their chairs and sofas redone down here because of the sun damage on the backs of the pieces. But I think the tops get a beating too!

Skyler, how fun! I love remodeling. (obviously)

Linderhof, I'm glad you said what first attracted you to those engravings was the frames. As my heart stopped realizing I just dropped off some prints like that to Goodwill today! Mine were not near as nice and the frames were boring. I like yours and they look great in your room.

Mary Ruth, Are you following the Home Organization 101: A Bowl Full of Lemons 14 week challenge? As I am and they were in the garage this week but since it was sub zero here, I did a room in our basement. Way to go to you for getting rid of stuff. I have a Jeep Cherokee. The back end and the back seat were FULL. :-)

daciab -- the engravings were UNFRAMED and so I was looking for just frames (with engravings in tow) at Hobby Lobby. These were not what I was looking for but they just seemed to work!

Perhaps your prints will show up on our MMF as some lucky board member will find them! (Or perhaps you can go back and see if you can retrieve them -- blame the husband?)

daciaB,
No I am not following Organization 101. I am not familiar with that one.
We have had temps in the low 80's here and had to put the A/C on a few afternoons. But the nice Spring-like temps made it easier to open up the garage and take things out and put back in.

The back of my SUV is full, I need to add a couple of more boxes to the back seats and then make the trip to the thrift store. I will go inside and check out the dish area, looking for a couple of plain clear plates, I want to experiment with the MS glass craft paint I bought and trying MS stencils.

Happy to start the thread Mary Ruth. Thank you for liking it and always participating Smile

Daciab, your chairs are lovely. Merry Chris t mas to you and DH!

Thanks Martha, we have wood floors in our house so I know I really will love them at the condo.

sjf, you are Sooooo right about the dark wood showing all the dust (scratches too). My in-laws had dark wood and were always battling it. The condo is cottage, casual style so the floors will follow suit. I'm looking for a lighter, rustic floor. Thank you for the warning!

My pleasure Grapefruit.

Graciej, I haven't really thought about how to maneuver the furniture while the floors are going in. Thank you for asking and giving me something to consider. Luckily, most of the furniture is small and light (no armoires or hutches) so we can move it. The beds will be more difficult.

Lisa Ann, we're patient Smile Just show us when you can.

I heard from my fabric supplier today that the fabric I chose won't be available for 8-12 weeks. I guess that gives me plenty of time to find an upholsterer. Big Grin
