Do Houzz & Pinterest make decorating process more effective? Sign In/Join

We recently interviewed a San Francisco interior designer, Kendall Wilkinson on our blog (http://www.jeffkingandco.com/qa-kendall-wilkinson-interior-designer/). She says the biggest trend to watch in interior design is the proliferation of online idea sharing sites like Houzz & Pinterest.

How are these tools helping you remodel? How are they helping homeowners & interior designers work together more effectively? We'd love to hear your experiences!

I like these two sites because they help me target a specific look I want to see such as; white kitchen, black hardware, wood floor, etc.

I can also search out color combinations such as chartreuse and purple. Or bead board ceilings.

Saves me time, and I get to see professional photography of great ideas as well as links as to where to find them.

If the photo I find is linked, it helps me source and find more of same.

I am sure you are putting yourself out there in Pinterest, for example, lots of professionals put their portfolio on there. I have no issue with that because it is not a pop up, in my face, advertising. Good luck!

I enjoy Houzz for the ideas. I haven't logged into Pinterest or saved many pics on Houzz but it is a nice way to view a large, electronic "picture book" of ideas.

I especially prefer Houzz over watching an HGTV show because I don't want to see the construction process, I just want to see the end result.

Sites such as Houzz and Pinterest are great inspiration. I'm not currently remodeling or redecorating but am always interested in ideas I might use at some time. I've learned about many design ideas I otherwise would not have known about from online sites. I save pics from Houzz but am not involved in Pinterest.

I'm not sure how it helps "homeowners & interior designers work together more effectively" as I'm not one who will likely ever hire a designer. I like making my own mistakes! ;D I suppose if a homeowner used those sites to save inspiration pics it might help the designer know their preferences. I have saved many pics from the internet to a memory stick so if I ever hired a designer they'd know what I like by looking at it.

I love both, but houzz annoys me because I'd like to be able to save some of the pics to my computer so I can show our builder ideas I have.
