Happy November everyone....anyone else getting excited about Thanksgiving

I hope you will all join in and play our game of Show n' Tell. If you're able to post pictures, please do, if not just tell us about your treasures. Items may be old or new, we love it all!

No shopping for me so I'll just enjoy all of yours.

Between going to the little town 30 miles south of us one day last week and going to the little town 20 miles east of us one day last week and ebay -- I SCORED this week!

(And except for ebay -- I spent less than 40 bucks!)

A wicker ash tray for the front porch -- have never seen one before and since DH has a cigar on the porch occasionally . . . Needs a coat of white paint, however!

A saucer -- I like to use them under the plants in the kitchen window -- odd blue and white saucers -- this was $1 and it's English!

Another blue and white salad plate -- also English and no marks on the back and it looks like it could be fairly old.

My ebay purchases -- have been wanting them for a long time -- have dinner plates but . . . didn't want to spend the money -- and there they were on ebay -- and a put in a minimal bid --

And they were mine! Guess no one is thinking of Thanksgiving now!

And the gravy boat -- which really can be used all year long for the turkey is inside!

And the true treasure -- $12.50. It's from 1805 to perhaps 1810 -- was marked $25 but it didn't sell so they slashed it in half! Looking on ebay -- work by this silhoutteist runs $300 to $400!

When I found out it was indeed real (and therefore worth more $ than I paid) it was sort of an Antiques Roadshow moment.

But isn't that why we thrift and "junk" -- to find these true treasures for pennies?

Martha, that wicker ash tray is a hoot! You sure you want to paint it white?? It's such an interesting color; looks like oxblood or cinnabar on my monitor, anyway. Even if you don't smoke, that sure is a wonderful conversation piece.

Oops -- I lied! I did spend more -- forgot the CHAIRS I bought -- Victorian -- 1850s or 60s -- not a steal of a deal but reasonably priced at $50 each --

They're good and sturdy and I really have a love affair with this kind of chair!

I've put them on either side of my "card" table which is my entry table which is in the living room.

Martha, I never saw a cigarette stand in wicker either. If he ever quits cigars, it will make a great plant stand too.
Love all of your blue and white dishes. You must have quite a collection of blue going now.

Love the chairs, I'm a chair girl too, have to force myself to walk away from them. They are great in this room too. They were meant for there. I have to say, I LOVE your bookshelves

I havn't been doing much shopping except for picking up a few Christmas gifts here and there.

I did pick up these two little trees in a clearance bin for $7.00 for both.

Wow Martha, you DID score this week. I agree the ashtray is a nice color as is but maybe white fits your decor better. Love all the blue and white, especially the turkey platter (yes, I'm already thinking about T-Day ). Very nice score on the portrait. Thank you for sharing with us, it makes me want to do more treasure hunting!

VG, cute little trees. I love that we have so many more color options than just the traditional green and red. I bet you'll make a great display out of those guys.

Martha, if you ever grow tired of your gorgeous bookcases, let me know. I'll take 'em off your hands.

Linderhof, your finds this week are AMAZING! I love absolutely everything. You could sell that silhouette and finance all of your other purchases with your profits...LOL.

Beautiful table cloth! Love the Barley twist candle holders on it! What atmosphere! Druling at the tea pot collection as I type!

I like pie servers, I use them to serve all sorts of food. And that English plate, love the Cobalt blue and the pattern is nice.

OMG, I thought that was a magazine photo! It is YOUR living room! BEAUTIFUL! I am having such bookcase envy right now! LOVE LOVE LOVE your stuff and how you arrange them! The wall and crown color is wonderful.

As for ME:
My great find this week has been the MS craft paint colors I was waiting for!
The print is kind of small but what it says is I got the Martha Steward Craft paints. I kept waiting for the right colors to come up at Michaels. But they were always out of the sea glass colors. So, I went onto Plaid Enterprises site: http://www.plaidonline.com/mar...aint/146/product.htm
and ordered them, they were on sale and even with shipping I paid less than at Michaels! Cool!

I have this bumpy plate from Target I purchased a few years ago and wanted to paint behind it in that pale blue sea glass color. I have these vintage clear glass leaf dishes I use for desserts (they have a yellow tinge to them) so I figured I would practice on those first.

I have two coats on the back side (not the side you eat on). I have to let dry for about 23 days then they should be ready to go in the DW (top shelf). I cleaned the side I was painting with rubbing alcohol then dried. After the paint dried, I used a razor blade to scrape off the edges where the paint bristles applied paint on the edge. Cleaned up nicely.

I love those bumpy luncheon plate sized but they get lost in a place setting. I thought they would look like and icy layer but they do not shine like crystal. But I thought with that pale blue under the plate they would stand out as a layer on a white plate.

So, after the leaf dishes go through the initial testing, then those bumpy/icy plates will get the paint applied.

It has been FUN to do a small project that does not make the whole house a mess! LOL

MR, glad you found your paints and looks like you are having fun with your new crafts. I know what you mean about a smaller project. Sometimes mine take over and the mess is a difficult problem.

I found a Jim Shore piece at the TS.
There are no chips or anything wrong with it that I can see.

Now...on to the Thanksgiving decor, LOL

I am in the mood to pull out all Christmas clear bulbs I have and paint the inside of them in that pale blue sea glass color! LOL, I can't even get to the decorations right now, so that is not going to happen! FUN is the right word... with pantry remodeling going on, the house is a mess, but one corner was open for me to PLAY in!

TS? where you found your treasure? I had not heard of Jim Shore and just looked him up on Google. Nice things, I like the quilting-like piecework and muted colors!

I thought so too, I like jadeite and used to have some pieces. IRL the side not painted is very shiny like the glass that they are.

I want to finish them differently on the next one I try, with frosting first on the underside of the dish, THEN applying paint to the frosed side. I just can't seem to do things the easy way! LOL

Gracie, Sea glass was my inspiration for the colors. The green is a bit dark (paint IS called sea glass) and I have mixed a bit of the blue in it, might mix a bit of gray, but have to buy more colors. This set of colors by MS does not have a white, has an off white.

Christmas Candy, what a pretty piece that is. Nice that it's in good condition too. I've started bringing out the Thanksgiving decorations too.

MR, the leaf plates turned out really well. You'll have to let me know how they hold up after washing. I've painted glass chargers underneath before but only washed the top of them.

I will let you know if they hold up. I plan on NOT washing the bumpy ones (the final ones I do) in the DW, but I must use the test ones and then wash it by hand and try the top shelf to see IF the paint holds up like Martha Stewart craft paints SAY they can do on the Plaid Enterprises site!

The final ones I end up using, I will baby them to make them last longer. I will probably only use them for special occasions and not everyday use.

I want to see how the Darker colors hold up too. I have to dig up some clear glass dishes to paint for testing. It might be time to go to the thrift store to get 'test' pieces!

I can't wait to see what 'etching' will do for the dishes too, etching before painting on the bottom of the plate.

At least it gives me options to make affordable accessory pieces to match dishes and candle holders for place settings!

MR, I used the MS Glass paint and swirled it around in a glass ornie, and turned them upside down to dry. My results were the look of glass fishing floats. Love them. Going to tie netting around them and use on a wreath. I used two colors of the sea. Both turned out well.

water based - water clean up!
NEW and modern colors!
AND cures in 21 days (on glass for example) to be durable.

That is why I bothered to post this project. I think this multi purpose paint is wonderful and comes in small containers so you don't have to put out a big investment on a project!

I really get NO residuals from this seemingly set up as an Ad! I just discovered it and since the Holidays are coming up, might save some $ for someone to re-purpose what they already have to put new color or a new twist on it!
