Small? Heck no. Those are pretty decent sized kitchens.
Here's a small redone galley kitchen, shared by 4 roommates (!) on the Lower East Side. That was the same size as a kitchen in my old grad student days in NY, only a lot grungier.
I agree re. the kitchen sizes depicted on that link. To most of us, they seem quite spacious. Still....there are some great ideas presented to maximize your space. Your kitchen pic is an excellent example of that.

I can't say I like any of the photos posted.I think most of them are over accessorized and if you have small children the one with the checked floor won't do at all with all those low hanging objects.
