I'm thinking of putting a chest of drawers in the family room for extra storage. The chest is being sold as part of a bedroom set and stands about 4 feet high. The wood and color match our entertainment center so I'm hoping it won't look out of place. It would stand on the other side of the room. Has anyone ever seen a chest in a family room?

I see nothing wrong with it at all. I've seen nightstands used for end tables and buffets used for dressers, so why couldn't a chest be used for storage in any room you wish?

Hi luv2bake,I had a small chest,4 drawers in the livingroom for that purpose.I needed storage and hiding places.Hid the phone book,scissors,tape,DVD's,house stuff needed but out of sight.Looked good too.But the hubby needed more space for work pants and shirts,so back it went.I need one now or table near the door.Might go out tomorrow looking in thrift stores.

If it makes you happy and suits it's purpose and you like it,DO IT!!We are nt complaining,it's your home.

I bought this chest specifically for my living room. Now that I have it, I don't know how I ever managed without the storage it provides. It doesn't match any of the other wood in the room. In fact, I have seven wood pieces in this room and NONE of them match. If I love a piece of furniture, it goes with the rest of the room. Same with art.

I have a four-drawer chest/dresser in my living room. It's a great place to store table linens and candles.

Indeed a chest of drawers would not be out of place outside a bedroom. It offers valuable storage and can also provide visual weight in a room with lots of leggy furniture. It can be against a wall or behind a floating sofa much like a sofa table. If against a wall, art or a mirror can be positioned above it.

Go for it, it will look great in a living room.

I have a chest of drawers in our family room and it doesn't look out of place at all. Our condo isn't that large and I really needed the extra storage. I use it to house tablecloths and placemats.

besides if the pulls seem too br, you can change them out...

what i'd like to do is get rid of the china cabinet we have and go with glass door cabinets (like kitchen-type) but painted to blend into current wall color...make it look buit-in...have the perfect space, too...(the stair wall)

the poor thing is falling apart...it matched a now long gone dining table...

I think they're wonderful! I don't have one but if I found one and had a space, it would be there in a NY Minute! I do have an armoire in my dining room -- a mirrored one that holds and amazing amount of stuff. So I don't necessarily think furniture is necessarily room specific! If it fits and is functional -- then go for it!

I agree with the others. I have seen chests in living rooms, and many other rooms for that matter. There storage is awesome! I have a dresser in my living room , that i use to store dvds, games, and such.. I don;t know how i ever made it without it. It helps give my room its own entry way area.
