I'm beginning to update my kitchen, getting rid of orange laminate counters over spring break.

Last weekend, I was stripping the wallpaper, and was looking at my ceiling - someone did a horrible texture job and it looked like the inside of a cave w/ the stalactites hanging down. Dirt was clinging to the texture and there was no way to clean or paint the ceiling.

It's a 1920s house w/ lots of bumps and texture...LOL!!!

Before - this does a good job of showing how the dirt clings to it:

I remember that problem in our 1st home which was built 1920's. Your ceiling looks 100% better and will be easier to clean.

I really hate heavily textured ceilings because they do cling to dust and dirt. I know you will be much happier now that you've knocked down some of the texture.

I will be taking pictures all along the way..

Graciepj - I am not a fan of textured ceilings either. I wish I could take them down and redo them all together, but I'm not putting that kind of money into that project. - I'd rather have "pretty" things like ceiling lights, fancy faucets, new floor - LOL!!!

I hope you didn't misunderstand. I was congratulating you for the work you did on your ceiling. I can't imagine how hard that must have been.

Absolutely not Gracie!!! When we live in old homes, it's amazing what people have done as time goes by. Sometimes we just have to shake our heads and wonder why!!

OH I am so familiar with scraping a ceiling!

In our Virginia house, the builders didn't paint the ceilings (new houses built this way) they just pounced the ceilings with plaster, this created a 'stalactite' type plaster drips! Before we decorated each room, I put plastic on the floor and then scraped the ceiling to get rid of all the points. What a MESS! We painted the ceiling after, and what a difference! We had to do this to every room!

Your ceiling looks so much better, between that and new counter top (color), you will feel like you have a new kitchen! It will be so worth the effort when done!

aaarrrgghhh!!! do i have to??? {{she says whining like a 2 yr old}}

Tonite i was looking online for some crown moulding that i can get to put up there - there are gaps bigger than a bead of caulk will fill. I found some sites that sell moulding and the corner blocks and return pieces for places that end weirdly.

A bit more money than i thought, but it will look better than what i pulled down.

Great job Becca!! Looks so much better than the old nasty ceiling. The molding sounds like a great way to finish it off. Lending you my virtual arm to help with the stripping of wallpaper.

Wow that was an amazing ceiling and looks great now. It reminds me of a commercial (for insurance?) that made fun of that style of texture on walls. Smile
