I had an hour till kill last night while my son was at soccer practice so I perused JCPenneys furniture dept. They have alot of new stuff out.


I did find one of their Possibilities sectional to be a good fit in regards to style and comfort when seated but it comes in a weird shape...All the rest of their sectionals come with a "fin" arm rest as they call it, but the seating is a little deeper than the one I'm gonna attach a picture of...

Here is the Possibilities sectional with the "fin" arm. I dont know why the seating is deeper than the other one in their line.

The one pictured ABOVE would perfect without that angled right end.

just looking at your first photo, all I see are alot of knees and legs tangling with each other. Great if you want to play footsie or knock knees.

I agree. The first one is not conducive to comfortable seating if you have more than three people sitting at the same time. Those corner angles are wasted space IMHO. The second sectional would accomodate four people, but again the corner section is wasted space. It would be like having two love seats positioned on a right angle.

I would never buy the first one with that weird angled peice.

It's a shame it doesn't come in different configurations because the seat depth is perfect. My issue with most living room furniture we try is that the seat depth is too deep.

My sister in law bought a sectional with this shape. It looks great in her living room, but I have noticed that it "dictates" where all the other furniture must be located because of the angled ends. I guess you could say that about all sectionals....

That style is called a conversation shape. All the people sitting on it can see each other without having to do a 90 degree with the neck!

NO one ever FILLS the sofa or sectional with the amount of people it says it can hold, unless it is a baby shower, a game and you are ALL in the living room on the sofa, have no other seating and you have 10 guests in the house...

In other words, count the people you NEED to seat and then make sure they are comfortable to watch TV or for whatever purpose you have the room for. Shape does not matter, as long as everyone has a good seat and view! And budget of course.

I have only one way/direction to place furniture so that shape would not work for me. The person sitting in the angled piece would have their back to the tv.

I'm sorta torn. One layout with a sectional would open up the space between the LR and DR.

The 2nd layout cuts off the space between the LR and DR. But no matter where you sit, you would face the tv.

I had to run home from work today so I took a few pictures of how I set up my living room furniture this weekend.

This is option 2 of my above post..

One section would face the tv and the other section would face the window wall..and cut off some of the space between LR and DR. I would have to move my armoire with this arrangement even though I love that armoire on that wall.

This is another picture I had taken previously..sorry I only have the sofa and 1 chair to play with for a layout...so you have to use your imagination and fill the missing area as if it was a sectional:

This is the option that would leave it open from LR to DR but the seating wouldn't be optimal..if I got a sectional with one peice facing tv like sofa is in this picture and then the 2nd piece on the window wall like the chair is pictured, the person/person sitting on the window wall peice is facing the DR. No one wants to crank their neck to watch tv. That wouldn't be comfortable.

Personally I think it would be too much heavy furniture in your limited space. I can tell you really want to squeeze it in. Too bad your kids don't like to sit up as what you have fits nicely in your LR .

I think you should get the sectional in the way that is best for tv viewing.

Now I need to wait for a good fit. So far, I like the one at Macys. Well I LOVE the one from Thomasville but it costs way too much even on sale.

Do you have a JCP Furniture Outlet store near you? I have a large one in my area. They always have lots of furniture in it. Most of the furniture, I never see anything wrong with it.
Check into it.
