window treatment Sign In/Join

I have a great room and a dining area that both have three long windows side by side. There is a view we don't want to obscure and no privacy or light control issues. My husband wants to leave the windows uncovered. I think they need some kind of scarf or valance treatment just to make them look finished. These two rooms are part of one open area so they need to match or at least coordinate and the rooms are casual...nothing formal or fussy. HELP!! Any ideas?

Welcome. You can soften the windows and bring color upward simply by framing them w/ a window scarf. This won't obstruct the view in the least. Each scarf can be draped just along the window frame softly and cascade onto or near the floor (assuming the windows come close to the floor). Here's an example and these are readily found in places like Bed, Bath and Beyond as well as other chains and on the Web.

I second that. There's nothing wrong with leaving the windows bare.

Tho I agree there's nothing wrong with leaving windows bare (and have done so in the past myself), framing them w/ a simple window scarf is an option that's still up to personal preference and won't obstruct a view. Choice is yours RondaLae.

Bare from me as well, but I do like Froo's idea of draping...

I have an all or nothing attitude when it comes to window coverings. If you like the view, a bare window is the best choice. If the window needs covering then cover it. This is my own personal opinion but I don't care for decorative valances unless they are purposeful, such as a covering for hardware you don't wish to be seen.

I third this. To me such windows look much more elegant in their simplicity, think Shaker or contemporary.

Unless there is a compelling reason to add fluffiness, leave them bare.
