Good morning Skyler! Thanks for getting us started.

My big "find" for the week is a Kitchen Consultant! She is coming tomorrow afternoon to look at our space and we can get the ball rolling on a plan!

Cannot wait to be rid of the 1972 peeling wallpaper...

This is a landscape painting. I'll be painting the frames on both paintings.

junkcollector,
I can't wait to see what you come up with for your new kitchen!

VG,
Those pictures are so nice and isn't it great when you can also get good frames for a low price?

I really like those pyrex bowls and they have such great happy colors! That yellow one is my favorite.

As for me:
I got a Craigslist parson's styled table for my daughter last week and am working on it.
I paid $85 for the table, it is solid oak and heavy and sturdy.

I have just started sanding it and my DH will help me to do the bulk of the work. My goal is to put a driftwood or barnboard finish on the table to make it gray with variations, that is why I wanted a table that shows grain. And my daughter wanted a Parson's style table so she can change out chairs (or even change color of table) later on.

Table had two leaves at 20" wide each.
I have begun sanding and will start a new thread to show progress.

I put a Pier One wicker chair of mine at the table to show my daughter the scale of the table when sending her the photo. She lives 2 1/2 hr drive from me and I found the table on CL near me.

I really like those pyrex bowls. And that parson's table is a beauty --- I learn all kinds of things here cause I thought parson's tables were just those little side tables. Who knew? (everyone but me!).

My find for the week was a $2 yard sale table top fountain that I bought for the pump. Then I scrounged around for a container, found all my shells from my winter in FLA, poked a hole in the bottom of the biggest one, and made a little shell fountain basket to put on the side table out on my new porch that was just finished last week. I might eventually spray paint the basket a lighter, more beachy color.

I tried deleting my enormous avatar. Hope it worked.

ETA: I did not find those starfish on the beach -- in fact they are not even real. I had a pair of coat hooks with the starfish on the top that I disassembled and reused.

I thought it was a bowl of shells, BUT it actually is a fountain! How COOL is that! Looks real beachy!

Parson's tables can be any size, and also chairs are called that. Meaning a style that has no ornamentation, just a table, just a chair kind of thing.

The most common example I have seen of this style table is in lucite (clear plastic) and white formica covered. That style is seen a lot in the sofa table syle.

Definition online of Parsons table:
The Parsons table was designed by Jean-Michel Frank whilst he was working at Parsons Paris School of Art and Design, then known as the Paris Atelier. While the form is generally credited to Parsons The New School for Design in New York City, according to an article in The New York Times that referred to archives at the Parsons School, the table was developed out of a course taught at the Paris Atelier by the French designer Jean-Michel Frank in the 1930s.

Victorian Girl, you have some nice finds again this week.

Mary Ruth, That's a very clever revitalization for that table. You're right that the lines are simple enough that the table can be used with many different decor styles.

MyLifeVacation1, What a nice way to add a little coastal accent to your porch.

Great finds everyone!

Junk Collector, oh what fun! When we redo our kitchen I'm going to enlist the help of a kitchen expert too. How did it go?

VG, I love all your goodies but I especially love the first picture. It gives off such a serene, peaceful feeling.

Mary Ruth, what a fun project! Nice looking table and it sounds like it's very good quality. Looking forward to watching your progress.

My Life Vacation, very pretty fountain! I bet you enjoy looking at it and remembering your time in Florida. Great use for your shells.

So much fun to see everyone's finds! I have one too! Yipee!

I found mine over the weekend at TJMaxx. I spotted this really big (about 20"high) owl statue. I immediately thought of how great it would look at Halloween with pumpkins and corn stalks or fall leaves etc, and so I picked it up in my arms and kind of struggled off to the check out counter under the weight of it. (didn't have a cart) It was so funny....I over heard these two ladies comment to each other...

"Did you see that woman?"

"The one who is buying that horrible owl statue?"

"Yes."

"Can you imagine how awful and tacky her house must be?"

"I know, who would buy something like that?"

Oh, gosh, I nearly laughed myself silly at their conversation. Between struggling to carry the thing, and laughing like a crazy woman, I barely made it to the counter.

Some people just have no vision - right?

I am not sure if I am going to leave it as is or wash on some faint color, especially on the books. Anyway, I think it will be fantastic come October!

Oh, and I forgot to say, it was 17.00. Not bad, compared to the price of what will be on the market next fall for larger scale Halloween decorations.

Cocok, I love your owl! You're right, some people have no vision or imaginaation. I think it will look terrific as part of a Halloween display.

P.S. they were probably just jealous they didn't see it first Smile

MR, thanks. Just the frames alone are worth more than that. I will paint them. I may do a gallery wall somewhere since I have a few oil paintings I picked up inexpensively. Going to take a look at what you've done on the other thread.

MLV, great to reuse things. Your basket looks very beachy.

Gracie, thanks.

Skyler, thanks, isn't it sweet. I'm thinking of changing my french country bedroom into a beachy bedroom so it may go there.

Cocok, I like your owl. I think your owl has some class, nothing wrong with him. I'd put him outside in my flower garden. I also like the color as is.
