Hammerhuggerwall texture
I have been putting off asking this because I don't know how to explain what the texture is and I have a question. It look like it was sprayed on and then smashed down, leaving various flat blobs. I am not explaining this well but I just don't know how to say it better. I can't take a pic because I have no way of getting them into this computer to post. My question is? Has anyone tried to stencil on a wall that is not completely smooth? I want to do something like that on one wall but don't want to make a mess of it.

aychihuahuaI have lightly textured walls which I hate, but have never attempted to do stenciling because I would make a hash of it.
To satisfy my curiosity, I went to Google and found what I think is a very useful tutorial for DIY stencilling on a textured surface. Hope it helps:

NitalynnThat sounds exactly like what is called "knock-down" texture, and no, I wouldn't try to stencil over ANY kind of texture. (I didn't look at aychi's tutorial; maybe someone else has it figured out.)

annie17I didn't think it was possible and I know it won't be easy but take a peek at this.....

zone9aladyI've done it, but just like in the videos, you have to go slow and use a slightly damp roller.
If your sponge or roller has too much paint it will seep under the stencil.

Always1StepBehindI was thinking knock down too. Couldn't it be sanded down a little smoother first? Then stencil?

HammerhuggerThe texture on my wall does not look anything like the texture in either video. But I suppose the method would be the same. I guess if I did just one wall it would not be such a chore to paint over if it did not turn out. Thanks for the videos girls. It sounds like using that fluffy roller made a difference according to the one video.

CJOOur new house will have 'orange peel' finish; wonder if that is that same.
Do you other Florida posters know?

daciabI've stenciled over textured walls. I used a stencil brush and pounced the paint on. A very dry brush. Dip in paint, then pounce on paper towel before applying to wall. It worked for me. Good luck!
