I know this has been posted probably a thousand times before.. but.. I have someone coming to paint our kitchen island in a dark finish, and the surrounding cabinets are white. I know this look is popluar now but I haven't saved many photos and I was hoping someone here could post some, or post a link to some inspiration web sites. Thanks so much! I'll be sure to post some photos when we are done!

Hi Paintlady. We are working on our kitchen also, so I have saved several pics. Are you only interested in pics with a combo of light and dark colors? Let me see what have.

Wow, these are great! thank you!

I think I'm going to do something like in that first picture that Nikki posted, the dark brown wood tone. But I also love the black..

Here's a picture of my kitchen, what are your thoughts on the island color?

I think black might be too dark, because the granite is dark.. maybe I should do a lighter brown/tan to keep some contrast with the granite?

Here's another view, from the other side of the room..... NOTE, the paint color is actually more of a tan like in the first picture (it's BM Wheeling Neutral)
This picture is a little older, it was taken when the room was painted Sandy Brown, which was too gold for me.

You have a lovely kitchen, just beautiful!

For the most contrast, I would paint the island the darkest brown you have in your granite. I love black, but not in your kitchen.

Post pics when you are done, what ever you decide!

I think the dark brown wood tone would look terrific in your kitchen. Please post a pic when it is finished. I must keep feeding my island addiction.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and nice compliments!
Annie, I don't think my house is on the Home Central link, if it is it would be older photos. I'll post more when this kitchen thing is finished.
purplgrl, the granite is tropical brown. It looks a little darker in the photos than it actually is, it has browns, tans, golds, and some black in it.

Very pretty kitchen! I too think the warm browns would be a great color rather than the blacks. If you're having this professionally painted, can they rub the high points on the cabinets and the corbells so they look aged - some of the white peeking through? It might give the cabinets some sense of depth and character to have the highlights show thru rather than be all one color - just a thought - it might not be right for your house.
