BEAUTIFUL STAIRS!!! Sign In/Join

I put new hardwood flooring in my living room. The color of the flooring is golden oak. The problem is that the stairs and the fireplace have a darker wood that does not match. I am thinking about painting the stairs and the fireplace white. Is this a good idea? Especially if I want to sell my house in the near future?

Could you take a few pictures so we can see what you mean. I don't know about the rest of the group but I am a visual person.

white stairs??? if your home is anything like mine (and we're down to just the 2 of us, from 6) they'd drive you crazy trying to maintain!

we have oak and painted just the riser section white and have marks from shoes, or grandkids...you might be better off sanding them down and restaining...

Here are a couple of inspirational photos found online.
You could also go darker on the handrail and stair tread tops and white on the risers.

Here is another, note that everything does not 'match' but coordinates.

Painted risers always look neat when viewing staircase.
