I'm wondering what others think about mixing different furniture. I have a cheery wood and black wrought iron bedroom set and have been using pictures of shells in there. I have a white wicker chair that I love and want to put in there but hesitate because it is white. I know I can use other accents to pull the white into the room. What do you all think?
It is difficult to say yah or nay without a pic or two. Keep in mind that you can always paint the wicker. Also, tho contrast is important, the addition of a white chair might look visually too light against the dark furniture. A light color applied to the chair is fine, but not as stark as a white and echo that accent color around the room. Draw color cues from prints in the room. Often, printed or mixed fabrics you use can dictate the room's scheme. If you room has print interest there may be a medium-light color such as a tan, gold, green, or blue for your chair.This message has been edited. Last edited by: Froo Froo,

IMO wicker looks lovely with many different styles, however it does depend on the style of the wicker chair. As for the color IMO it shouldn't be a problem and if you have cushions on the chair they can be covered in a fabric that complements the other fabrics in the room to mitigate it's white-ness.
White wicker, depending on the style, can give a cottage look to a room but if your cherry and black wrought iron is a casual style it should be OK.

Even without pictures, the styles seem conflicting. What is driving your design, the shell pictures, the furniture or the need for seating? It seems that paint might be your only solution. Either lighten the colour of the bed, or darken the wicker.
I found the perfect pictures with frames that match the bed so they hang over the bed. Because of the theme of the shells I thought about putting the white wicker chair in there too. The wicker because it seems beachy to me. I just love the chair and it has been in my basement for years and I really want to use it in a room up here. Thank you for the responses!
What Color are you using other than the metal and wood? Blue, creams, other than white? Would painting the chair cream (off white) or a color you are using in the room work?
If this is a temporary chair, then just get a pillow cushion (or make a simple seat cushion cover) that has a beachy feel to it so you can enjoy your beachy theme!

It's a chair, you already own it, put it in there and see if it works! It's not like a really big sideboard or dresser that you have to move -- a chair can easily be moved in there to see if it works or not!
I'd try it and see if you like it. If you like it but feel it needs to be a different color, then you can paint it!
I'm not matchy matchy in my decor and feel that different things CAN live in harmony. (Of course, it doesn't work ALL the time! LOL!)
I mix furniture all the time. It may not look right to someone else but if I like a dainty rocker and a big overstuffed chair, I buy them both. Someday, when I grow up, I will learn how to pull it all together. :-)
Thanks everyone for all the replies! I really don't want to paint the chair because the white is what I really like about it. Just makes the room feel bright and airy. I will put it a couple of places and see if I like it. I am working on a tv room also so maybe it can go in there.

It's really good to see your recommended site where the most fascinating photos are in the Blue Room album. Last week I have seen the beauty of white furniture at dooleysfurniture and now in your post. It's proven that white goes well with all color whether it is blue, green, pink or purple!
I am going to try it in a couple of places today and if it works I will take a picture. I do have a blue cushion almost the exact same color of the blue recliner going in my tv room so that just might be where it ends up.
