When Sonny Dayz posted about the sale at Barn Fabric, I ordered a couple of samples to see if there might be something we'd like for the living room-yes, we're still looking. Roll Eyes The samples came yesterday and we found one that Donnie absolutely loved. The sale ended in a few hours so I went to order it, had 30 yds of it in my cart, and was looking for the other pattern I wanted to order as well. By the time I had the second pattern in the cart, POOF! the first pattern had disappeared out of my cart. When I went to put the first pattern back into my cart, there were only 13 yds left! I missed it by two minutes!

I got the remaining yards anyway and figured someday we'd find something that coordinates well with it. Donnie was pretty disappointed since we've been looking for fabric for quite a while now. I figure, if it was meant to be, it would have been and that was fate's way of saying no. Smile

I did find 13 more yards at another site, but it's at $20 a yard. We'll have to give that some thought. In the meantime, I ordered a sample of something else to see if it coordinates.

Isn't it pretty?

This was the sample I ordered to see how it coordinates with the above. What do ya think? Think the pattern is different enough to work well?

I ordered this one to try out on the dining room chair seats. When I got the sample, I had in mind putting it on the striped chair in the LR, but it's really pretty with the green DR. Not sure what I think of it with the DR rug though. Can't wait til it gets here so I can PLAY!

In the meantime, I still have nothing to cover the funky orange velvet chair with-which by the way was the whole point of fabric shopping. Figyas.

I Guess the early bird gets the worm -- or rather fabric. Lesson learned, though -- when buying a LOT -- you should have went ahead and checked out with the 30 yards and then went BACK to search. May have been a bit more shipping, but . . . you would have had it!!!!

Sorry -- and like you, I feel that it wasn't meant to be when something like that happens!

That second fabric in the blue is very pretty.

What is the issue with the funky chair? Color? Pattern? It's such a great piece that it would be hard to go wrong!

Lin, it didn't even cross my mind that other people might be shopping too! Duh. If the blue sample doesn't turn out nice, I may order what they have left from the other place...hmmm...or maybe not. Dye lots are probably different. Oh well. I guess it's an "opportunity" to create something different and probably more interesting!

JC, although you don't really notice it in the pics, the fabrics on all the furniture is worn and the orange chair is pretty dirty and cleaning it didn't help the appearance of the velvet. Up until the last house, none of this stuff was even indoors and it shows. The orange chair bugs me the most because the solid color really shows its condition-that and the fact that orange is my very least favorite color. Other than it's dirty and orange, it's my favorite chair. It's unbelievably comfortable. I'd like to go with a solid velvet again but with the possibility of lounging cats, a patterned chenille would be more practical from a cleaning perspective.

The bottom line is now that it's being used as our primary furniture, it's time.

Oh sorry - I didn't mean leave it as is, but rather what about it is stumping you with regard to fabric selection? It is such a great looking piece - size, scale, looks nice and comfy - you could do a solid or any number of patterns and it would be great.

Searching for fabric isn't easy, and I would have done the same thing - if it is "in" the cart, who would worry?

Oh Bella, how dang frustrating! I remember the first time that happened to me. I was confused as to where the earrings I had just put in my "cart" had gone. Dummy me calls the company and asks only to have them tell me someone had bought them from under my nose. I couldn't believe it! I asked the lady " if I was shopping in the store and put something in my cart, nobody could come along and take it out". I know, I know ridiculous thinking on my part but I was so mad.

Many times when something I want is sold out, I'll check the website a few times a day to see if it's re-listed. When people buy things and then return them, they're re-listed. I don't know if fabric works that way.

I think all of your choices are beautiful and the first two coordinate well.

Frustrating indeed. Bella, I must say I LOVE the first two fabrics and yes, I think the scales are varied enough to work harmoniously in the same space. You do have an eye woman!

Call me naive but, I really thought that by putting an item in your cart, it was yours, saved, protected, unavailable to anyone else! Lesson learned.

Love all those fabrics! Your furniture is gonna look fabulous with those...the styles of your pieces are perfect for the colors, textures and patterns you've chosen.

Christie, I'm so sorry to hear this. I can't see your pics, but I wanted some fabric recently that I had seen on Barn Fabrics and it sold out in a flash. It's trendy, which is NOT usually me, but it appealed to me, and I'm venturing just a bit into neutrals, I may cover a club type chair in it. http://www.housefabric.com/Pos...-Charcoal-P8697.aspx

Anywho, I was out at the site a few weeks ago, an he had it in again! He showed 6 yards left and I grabbed it, and called to place the order. The owner answered as he often does and told me he'd just gotten more in, and actually had a bit more than shown online, so I added 2 more yards. It was $5.99 at the time. Nice savings over the site I have linked. You may want to call their 800 number and check to see if there is more?

He usually has sales around holidays, so if you're on his email list, you MAY get an email soon for the 4th of July.

I'm so tickled! BDM posted about the sale being extended so I popped back over to the site. When I opened a new internet tab it took me to the screen with that pattern on it and it was showing that there were 25 yds available! I ordered all of them immediately. Donnie's so excited.

I had problems with it disappearing out of my cart when I logged in, so I called their 800 number and Gary fixed me up. He said that the new site format is doing strange things with the number of yds available that show up on the screen. Guess I was shopping against myself Saturday night! Anyway, if it happens to anyone else, just call and they'll fix it for you.

JC-the problem with the chair is that in order to pick a pattern for it, I had to know what was going on the other three pieces first since finding something I like for them would be the hard part. Now that I know what's going on them, I can finally find something for it. Maybe the sample I ordered will work. If not, I have a soft patterned chenille in mind if I can remember where I got the sample of it. I'm sure something will turn up.

After all that everything worked out fine. I'm delighted!

MR, we have a guy that does it. I'd do the DR chairs except that they need all new foam so I'll let him do them. I'd never get around to it. I've done some small stuff and one full sized chair, but would rather have someone professional do the LR furniture. He did all the big furniture at the last house, gets it done quickly, is better than his competition, and his pricing is very reasonable. Can't beat that really.

Do you ever give up something so you can have something else? Well, two weeks ago, smokes went above $50 a carton and I decided it might be time to reassess whether or not I wanted to continue being extorted. It's my only vice, but one I've had for 30 years so I needed a strong motivator in order to consider quitting. At $200 a month, there are plenty of little projects I might like to do with that. So, this month I'm trading in my habit for some reupholstered chairs.

Everyone needs to buy stock in Smarties! Smile

Christie! WAY TO GO! Congratulations! What a GREAT gift you just gave yourself & Donnie!

I think you are going to love having the new living room as opposed to a box of something that gets used up!

I never smoked so I can't relate to the quitting part, but DH quit smoking about 6 yrs ago, and his health has improved so much (and healthier eating with me watching over him).

I hear you about the upholsterer. When we were in our house just a little while, I met a great couple who rented a space in the building where I worked. They did some great work, and their price was reasonable, so I brought stuff to them to redo for me. It is great you have that option to take advantage of! Can't wait to see!

GREAT habit you are picking up! You like smarties? DH took the habit of eating sunflower seeds with the shells. For a very long time our cars had the shells all over the place, it looked like a birdcage! He said it kept him busy so he wouldn't think of cigarettes. It worked!

I don't know if coordinating the two fabrics is still on your mind, but I think that although the colors seem to match perfectly, the patterns are too similar. I'd want a different (non-floral) pattern altogether with the same colors.

I love the first two swatches, they are perfect together.

I would get them for my living room in a second, considering my two medium gray Queen Ann chairs and gray leather Tuxedo sofa, along with the two other gold/sage sofas.

MR, yeah, I'm a Smarties fiend. I keep them in my pocket at work most of the time anyway. The other girl that works with me (also a smoker) has taken up the habit too. The nicotine isn't the hard part, overcoming the established rituals is. We don't smoke in the house, so when I go out, that's the time I spend with the animals. I have to find some other activity to replace that so they don't suffer from inattention. I don't have a coffee/cigarette affiliation, so unlike most people, that's not a trigger. If I'm busy, I'm ok as my mind is elsewhere, but boredom is h*ll. I have fruit to help with the hand to mouth activity, salad because it isn't a trigger, pure cranberry juice to help flush toxins. I can already smell things I couldn't really smell before. We actually had a good rain yesterday and everything smelled sweet after. Of course there are other odors that I'm sure I won't be so delighted about. Eek Some days I'm sure it will be a real pain.

Hang in there Christie! I promise you that it will get better! This is one of the best gifts you can give yourself (besides Donnie!)!

Sounds like you are already on top of it and doing OK. I can't relate, but saw DH go through it. Sometimes he got crabby and frustrated, but we played a lot of cards then... cribbage mostly because of the constant use of our hands. Then we started doing house projects and have not stopped since!

You become more successful when it is your own idea and you take on the challenge. But the health rewards will be immeasurable! Good for you Christie!
