I am replacing carpet on my stairs and after looking at a few places I am totally confused. Since stairs are high traffic what is a good brand and kind to get. I was thinking a nylon berber with a tight loop. What is good face weight and density? Need inspiration pics. Thanks!
Contrary to popular opinion, berber is not a good option for stairs. True berber does not have a tight twist to the yarn, in fact sometimes it has almost no twist at all. A short plush or textured plush will wear better. If it's a loop carpet you're after, look at a commercial weave.
Nylon is the work horse of carpet fibers, so on that point you have been given some good advice. Shop at a carpet store vs. a box store. You will get far better information, a better price and a quality installation.
I saw a pic of "sea grass stairs". I like the way it looks. You can google it & lots of pics come up. I think they would wear ok, but cleaning them, I don't know.
Loops and wiltons are not good weaves for stairs especially if your house has guys in it. The rubbing of larger size shoes against the risers causes the loops to break over time and look shabby.
