Do I need to coordinate colors in bedroom #1 with #2? Bedrm #2 wall color will be a slate blue or lighter. This is the view you will see as you turn from the stairway to go into the basement.

Since I already have a black & gray comforter for a twin bed in #1, will gray walls be fine?
The bed will be around the corner from the doorway in this bedroom.

Most definitely you can go w/ gray. Grays are neutrals and some in fact have blue undertones to boot. No worries. If gray suits the space, go w/ it. Just temper it w/ some white and factor in flooring and lighting when it comes to the specific gray as inspired by the comforter to determine the best hue value. FYI, bedrooms need not follow a common flow as colors used in public spaces do.

Ah, thanks so much Froo. I will post my curtain fabric for that room. It's a nightscape of downtown New York and other major cities in the country. Has the old Twin Towers in it!!! And come to think of it, it had a bit of royal blue in it. (It's buried somewhere in the mess we had to remove from the basement before they started working on it.)

Beau's Rose
You could pull off almost any other color for the room. Have fun choosing which one.

Yellow, Gold, Dusty Plum, Green, Rust could all work too.

Although I would prefer to see the paint chips/samples of all your colors, in general, sounds like a good idea. Unless you're planning on selling your home relatively soon and want to stage it, really, anything goes. It's all about your personal preference.

Even though the bedroom colors need not be the same and/or similar to each other, I always prefer to unify the rooms somehow. Between the grey accent in your fabrics plus the grey on the walls of the other bedroom, that should work well. Important to check all the shades/tones together, however.

Can't really tell what color you've painted the hallway. Again, it need not be the same as the bedrooms but I always consider it, anyway.

Good Luck!

Hey blueday - the other bedroom will be a slate blue. None of the walls are painted yet, just primed. That's probably why you can't tell what color the hallway is. Any ideas what color that should be? and the family area? I was thinking a taupe. However, our upstairs area is a nice shade of green. The hallway in front of the bedrooms to the left leads to the family room, which is quite spacious. I'll post a pic of the hallway leading to the family room before they were primed.

Nance, I absolutely love taupe. Because of your greyish fabric, I would select one for the hallway with a greyish base, i.e. not brown. (IMHO, taupes come in those two varieties.)

Another option would be to pick up the light grey from the striped fabric and repeat that - or the grey from the other room (the other bedroom's grey, right?), assuming they work well together. Grey's a great neutral, works well with blue - so you won't go wrong there. Whatever color you select for the hallway, I'd keep it light b/c it's a basement.

Thinking about your family room, like I said above, anything goes. You need not go blue or grey or any other particular color. I would try to work those colors in somehow, so your rooms flow together, however.

WRT the green upstairs, if that's your favorite color, you might select a greyish-green - maybe from the same paint family as your upstairs color. With a grey base to the green, that room would flow nicely from the hallway. You could then select a fabric with that color and possibly a little navy and/or even the light grey to use as an accent in the family room.

OTOH, it's often best to start with the fabric and go from there. The paint counter personnel can match anything but the other way around is more difficult.

Hope some of that is helpful. It's all JMHO.

Good Luck!

P.S. Sorry I was so slow to respond. Wrote an entire reply the other day, stepped away from the pc for a moment and it disappeared! Didn't have the time to retype it. Sorry -

BTW, I'm going to add a couple of edits to my previous posts (from today). FYI
