(Sorry, have NO ability to take/post pictures.) Having a hard time decoratiing my NEW (took 4 yrs to find THE ONE) console table. It is 5 ft long and 14 inches wide on a 8ft wide wall with 10 ft ceiling. Trying to keep the decor light as the foyer has a deep porch outside and is on the north side of the house. Expresso colored table on cherry stained oak floor. BM Classic Ivory on the wall and white trim. Please help- It has been sitting there n^ked for 4 weeks!

It's a shame you can't post a pic. So...is this table in a foyer? W/ the high walls, a tall object of art is ideal or perhaps a grouping of related prints in identical frames. Have you considered a tall mirror which would double light? A tapestry? a small rug? An enlarged photo in a frame? A painted canvas? A piece of grillwork/ironwork? These are some suggestions that would be in scale to the height of the room and anchor the table beneath but w/o knowing your style of decor, it's difficult to pinpoint the perfect wall accessory. Do keep contrast in mind, the scheme of your space or if neutral, adjoining spaces and the feel you wish to evoke. As for the top of your table, take cues from the wall accessory. One long planter box is a possibility, but it would have to be quality silks. A long tablesconce w/ candles perhaps? Buffet lamps add lighting and because they're slim and tall, they'll emphasize the height of the room. If you do an asymmetrical display, be sure both sides are in balance. Other items to consider might be: a decorative box a lg/tall pc of pottery a lg. decorative dish on a stand a group of lanterns stacked books a decorative tall finial a pc. of sculpture (even garden statuary) a candlestick grouping (use fat candles in varied heights)

Hi Sheltie, This was a quick re-do a few months ago on one of my tables. It was just moving things that I already and putting my shell collection in the glass canister. I'll post 2 books I like later this weekend for you. Have fun, play and edit your display to arrive at a pleasing arrangement. I like to use items that have special meaning if possible. Good Luck! ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives ![]()

Mine is about the size of yours. I have lamps on it to help with my dark foyer.

Just curious, why can't you take/post pictures? No cellphone? My phone is the only camera I have. I text the picture to my email address, download it to my computer and attach it to my post here. Very easy. If you have a cell phone with camera, you're set to go.

Froo Froo- I neglected to mention I have a huge mirror to hang above the table- bought it before we closed on the house. Thanks for the reminder. Beau's Rose- Thanks for the pic- love the candle stick..I think I have a large pair in the basement to try out. Georgia Peach- A lamp is a must! I feel that the scale of the lamps I see while out shoping are too small for the space. Thanks for the visual. Any idea how tall the lamp should be given the dimensions I listed?

jaysmom- No data plan- we are low tech here.

My text plan is $5 per month. Truth be told, I only use it for the picture function, especially when I'm decorating and posting to this board. Could live without it but I enjoy the boards too much!

2 sheltie, I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a digital camera. I went to Conn's and asked to see the cheapest one they had. I ended up spending $30.00 and I can now post pix!!!

Back to table pics... PLEASE

One way to handle this dilemma is to simplify the choices. Start by choosing between a symmetrical or asymmetrical arrangement of things on the table surface. A symmetrical arrangement means that if you draw a line down the middle of the wall/table what is on both sides of the line would be identical. Asymmetrical arrangements would be different on the two sides of the line. A typical symmetrical arrangement might start with two lamps, one on each end of the table. Then there would be objects between the lamps. A typical asymmetrical arrangement would start with one lamp on one end of the table, and then objects on the other end of the table. So, one lamp or two? Symmetry, or not? Then it is just a matter of choosing the lamps, and the objects, which of course could be many things, and they could change seasonally. (Of course you would also hang your mirror - there is something taking the place of the mirror in each photo) I am posting a few pictures. You might have to use your imagination a bit as I don't have pics of your exact situation. But look at the arrangements on the top of the furniture pieces I'll post. Hopefully you will start to see how easy this can be. PS, these are not my own photos-they are from my photo file, and I rarely keep credits. Sorry. Symmetry. I hope this helps a little 2 shelties. ![]()

Thanks cocok! Asymmetrical is the look I like. Like the rustic pic but those lamps are HUGE. This should be easier for me- I am a merchandiser- but I think the scale (height of the wall) is throwing me off.

What is the wall height situation?

10 foot ceilings Table is 32.5 inches tall Have purchased one mercury glass lamp with white drum shade. Placed a tall basket on bottom shelf to conceal lamp plug and outlet. Need to find mirror that is stored in the basement.
